the simultaneous canon of 'referencing the official translation' and 'that's the universal translator working'

the term used for Ishmael's group in the EN translation is Sinners, but the game is originally written in KR

... where the term used is actually 수감자, which translates to inmates/prisoners, i believe

henceforth I am never letting her say "at least Sinners sounds better than inmates" because that's the universal translator working. Is this ridiculously nitpicky and a little silly of me??? Yes. But what am I if not ridiculously nitpicky about diagetics

for my purposes, they're called Sinners in all ways except 'that's the literal word Ishmael is saying', because it's not

The Barge has really good lipsync on its dubs, is how I think about it

Lol!! I love that description. I've always thought it's a mental magical understanding, but that's even better.

It's probably meant to be that, but the lipsync is funnier to me.

though that's mostly because I think you'd get a weird disconnect from hearing one thing and just Knowing what they actually said, like subtitles on reality

Yeah, there's more mishaps for magical translation if there was an actual translation than just knowing.

okay so the first one is extremely basic, it's for the grunts in the front lines of the blood war just shouting things like CHARGE and DUCK and OH NO FUCK

the second one is a full language, not as grating as the first but not exactly delicate either. that's the one that's easiest for non-devils to learn.

the third one is weirdly musical, and ridiculously complex. you've got to piece together sentences Very Carefully, there's meaning in every syllable, and it's near impossible for most mortals to actually learn

the fourth is the one only archdevils and pit fiends know, it's melodic and horrible at the same time, the very sound of it can drive listeners to despair, etc

zerxus learned infernal like, instinctively when he met asmodeus, which led to extremely funny moments where he was shouting in devil language suddenly without knowing it
