i'm not stressing out over it but i will have to prepare. at least i still have a year since i'm going on maternity leave lol
the timing really sucks tho, like we can tell this move is a direct result of the election
siriuslydementd our company's being bought out so layoffs are on the horizon
mostly bc most of the company's operations aren't in the US anymore
so the move will save the company but redundancies will be imminent and thus layoffs over the next year
it's the tariffs and the "bring jobs back to america" thing
jobs in America, yes, I agree with that, but the tariffs are stupid
so yeah. people are shookt. esp since almost everyone is out by now for the holidays and then this news blows up??
and there are major sites outside of the US impacted
bc in like 2005-2010 there was that whole outsourcing explosion
hopefully americans actually want those jobs back and i mean to work those jobs bc, you know. lots don't want to work minimum wage
that's why some jobs got outsourced or foreign workers are brought in (cough nurses cough)
That is the 'only' good thing I suspect (and I'm really hoping it does) come from this. Maybe employers will stop being shite to employees b/c they want to hire 'americans'. -_-
not that we should have different standards for americans vs. non, but just...
fix the jobs so they're not shite
that should really be in the case in EVERY country tbh
fix the jobs and not... shortchange your own people
this would've been the time to be like "yay i can be a SAHM bc my authoring business is doing great" alas it is not LMAO
Honestly it USED to be about long term growth and stability of that growth over time
but around the 70s/80s we had the whole mindset shift to Short term profits NOW NOW NOW never mind anything else.
<---being very broad, and I also dislike and disagree with this shift btw
now i need to not just find something to augment what little i'm getting for maternity pay but also prepare to come back only to lose the job eventually. i'm protected for now by labor laws but my role might be redundant or they close the UK branch or decide their cost savings target is better achieved by laying off some first world country folks. who knows
and i don't want to go back to a non-remote job esp with a child on the way soooo
shinotenshi22 yeah the now now now thing is just... so bad all around
omg I didn't know you were expecting again, congratulations!
speaksincolor thank you!! ahaha yeah i didn't announce it and just mentioned it in one of my plurks recently. 32 weeks now, hoping no hiccups 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Ahhh I'm so happy for you!!!!
and now we got a notice that rent is going up by £35/month......... just as i'm about to go into maternity leave and we're buying a bunch of big expensive stuff for the baby. sigh.
some of you are lucky you can afford to splurge for your whims lol
