they might be waiting to test the rat. rabies shots are an involved process, expensive, and I think tough on the body, so you don't want to give them out unnecessarily

idk they hit my brother with rabies shots this morning because his own (stupidly unvaccinated for some reason) dog bit him.

yeah when I had a dog bite scare last January they encouraged me to get rabies shots ASAP (I didn't end up getting them bc I was able to confirm the dog's vaccination status)

did they ask your brother if he'd rather have the dog tested before doing the shots, which he declined because he didn't want to put his dog down?

the exception is dee, luckily he is vaccinated and can't pass rabies onto any rodent he torments

yeah, with the exception of bats most small rodents just don't survive attacks by rabid animals in the huge majority of cases. Probably still a tiny tiny chance but I don't know if there's any known cases of rat to human rabies transmission (bats are an exception because they get infected by other bats)

My mom was bitten by a mouse last night. Just got to relay these fun rabies facts to her.

Still worth talking to a doctor because rodent bites are deep and nasty.
