Calls have been made for councils to ban mixed sex toilets in schools after a horrifying incident in Dundee where a teenager found a camera filming naked girls. Police are investigating after a device was discovered inside a toilet roll holder and handed to staff.
A cache of footage was found on the camera roll which was allegedly hundreds of videos and images of girls naked in changing rooms and using the toilet. A 15-year-old male youth was charged with voyeurism with the angry parent of the teenage girl hitting out at the SNP-led council for offered mixed sex toilets.
But earlier this year it was reported that one in 20 schools provided only mixed-sex toilets despite the law stating that separate ones must be supplied for boys and girls. The Scottish Government says transgender pupils should “use the toilet facilities they feel most comfortable with”.
A Dundee City Council Spokesperson said: “It would be inappropriate to comment on an ongoing police matter.” The Scottish Government have previously said: “The provision of toilets is a matter for local authorities.”
