I'm looking forward to reaching DQ9 in my arc because I know one incredibly hardcore thing that happens in it and i'm obsessed with it
in 9, as I understand it
the hero and the villain are both Celestrians
which are like, anime angels
and this becomes a problem because the villain is like
a higher rank of celestrian than you
which means that, metaphysically, you aren't allowed to attack him
so what you end up doing in order to get around that
is casting off your Celestrian gifts entirely
forsaking your angelic powers and becoming a lowly human
because humans arent' part of the Celestrian hierarchy
and, therefore, there's no rules about what you can or can't do anymore
you become a mortal in order to kill a demigod
That’s so fucking cool
It’s the only thing I know about dq9
high ranking celestrians hate this one simple trick
Amusingly the most recent Dragon Quest Monsters where you play as Psaro has a similar conceit
You get cursed to not be able to attack other Monsters
So you train up a bunch of monsters to hurt other monsters for you
oh this is wicked
