The other day, while walking on the trail, I saw these seeds and seed pods. They look similar to milkweed but not quite. Any ideas?

: Hmmm. I'll check but the pods in the photos don't really look like cattails, to me.

My first thought was thistle, but that can't be right, either

Apple says milkweed, but I don’t know that, so I can’t say.

It might be a slightly different variant of milkweed.

Apple’s identifications aren’t totally reliable.

: Dear Apple, Teddy is not Bembo.

: Oh, I hadn't considered thistle. This could get complicated!

It definitely thinks Teddy is a cockapoo, which is strange, because it usually thinks Bembo is a Portuguese Water Dog.

They could easily be milkweed. Many different varieties.

I think the thistle fluff is much shorter.
