i've been stalled on the instructions for a while now, but i need to make it in time to ship it to Virginia for Christmas
also relearn how to make a magic circle because i seem to have completely forgotten lol
just a little one, i can send pics of the cover of the box later
but the instructions are tripping me up because i don't know how to figure out what they're asking me to do lmao
it's a unicorn, so of course the instructions require magic
i can maybe help, which parts are you having trouble figuring out?
i will take a pic of the pattern when i get home
my phone is refusing to acknowledge that the internet exists, but i'm trying to upload the pattern...
...or i could just transcribe it i guess
so it tells me to make the neck with 7 stitches increasing into 14, and then the issues happen in round 7
Rnd 7: Ch 9, sc in 2n ch from hook and in next 7 ch, sc in next 6 sts, inc, sc in next 7 sts - 23 sts
Rnd 8: working in the back loops of the ch previously made, sc in next 7 sts, [inc] 2 times, sc in next 14 sts, in sc in next 8 sts - 35 sts
i'm just having trouble with figuring out how to do... any of that, really
rofl I missed the crochet part of this and I was like... idk I just had no frame of anything
OH okay that makes more sense
sorry, i had no idea how to answer that question because i didn't realize you missed the crochet part
no worries XD
ohhh okay. so when you get to round 7, it wants you to, instead of crocheting into the first stitch of round 6, chain out 9 stitches, then single crochet into 8 of them (treating the 9th as a "turning chain", which is a chain-1 you do at the end of a row to get height for the next row)
and then SC into the first stitch of round 6, go around the round, then increase halfway through it, then SC until you hit where you started the chain
you're basically building out the back of the unicorn here
that's round 6 + the chain you start round 7 with
here's a shitty diagram, red is rnd 6 and blue is rnd 7
once you join back to rnd 6 you just continue around as normal
and in rnd 8 you just treat the extension from rnd 7 as part of the round. the only complicated part there is working back loops only which i'm sure it's having you do because of the chain
(basically you work in the only available loop for the chain, since the other side's already been crocheted into, and then do BLO (back loops only) for the other side so it matches in appearance)
i definitely crocheted backward on that chain in row 8 because i was still trying to wrap my brain around how to do it lmao
but we will call this the practice unicorn and see how it turns out
the moment when you realize it's actually starting to look like something never gets old
this yarn is terrible lmao
it looks like ot should, though the butt looks a bit weird because i made a mistake somewhere. but the tail will cover that right up
yeah the most important thing to remember about making minor mistakes is that, if you weren't the one who made it, you probably wouldn't even be able to see it
and all the traditions about people deliberately making mistakes in their art are nice to keep in mind as well
there, how the seam is leaning to the right. might be hard to see on the white yarn
i don't think it'll be noticeable in the finished product
yeah it probably won't be haha
working on the hooves now
i'm supposed to put two more rows on this but i can't even tell where the stitches are they're so close together
so it's 'done' i'll just do what i can to make the tip look more pointy
and figure out how to move the thread so it's at the base... this was a dumb way to have me make the horn
i'm gonna try making it backward next time
wow did it actually have you build it bottom-up? how tf are you supposed to sew it on when it's done lmao
i do not know it's the stupidest way to do it
but this is the same company that wants me to decrease by crocheting two together
so i think they're just a bit thick
i mean i think that they did it this way because it's easier to make it pointy? but yes again how do i attach it
i know exactly how i am going to make it next time and i think it will be just fine wrt pointyness
proof of this nonsense
"leave a tail for sewing".... at the top?!?
unbelievable lmao. yeah making it top-down is a much better way to go imo
also the bottom is round instead of flat which will make it harder to attach as well
i am going to finish the rest of the parts and then see what colors i have left over to just make a horn with something else lmao
another weird hat
...i am making another unicorn even though the first one isn't finished /cough
oh yes i reversed the horn instructions, i literally just started with 4 and increased every time it told me to do a decrease, it was pretty easy just fiddly so i had to go slowly
and i didn't do the last row (first on paper)
i also didn't have enough of the faux gold so i went with a grey instead for a faux silver
now i need to find my crochet hook, i'm suddenly missing the one i need for this
don't tell me it has you sewing pieces on with a crochet hook instead of a tapestry needle.....
oh no, it has me using a needle, that's all fine
but i still need to make the mane and tail bits
i have since found the hook so all is well
...time to look up how to crochet a simple chain stitch because that has suddenly dropped out of my brain orz
to start a chain, i always hold the tail end of the yarn between my thumb and first finger, with the skein end going over the back of my knuckle, and then wrap it around my first and middle fingers to make a circle, holding both ends against my finger with my thumb where the yarn crosses itself
then stick a crochet hook into the circle between my fingers from the front (palm side), hook the yarn, and pull it through
then you just take it off your fingers and pull the tail end to tighten the loop and there's your starting stitch
that worked now i need to stop sneezing long enough to actually make the stitches straight
omg i'm so sickbrained i was trying to start a new project that might be easier to do and was sitting here like 'why isn't this working, this is so weird'
i was using a 3.5mm when i needed a 5.0mm
i also dropped all my stuff earlier so i have no idea if i picked them all up. I think i'd better just give up for the night lmao
speaking of that i need to find a way to put the numbers back on all my hooks. I bought a set a bit ago that work just fine but the numbers were printed on exactly where i grip them and the grips are plastic
definitely a made in China sort of quality on the lower end of even that
but they're fine, again. It's just that as i'm using them my fingers are rubbing away the numbers
oh dear yeah that's a problem
/looking at the picture/ these legs look too long...
/looks at the diagram again/ oh i made them 3 rows too long
