how on earth.... look I get some works of architecture are art, or some places have special historical significance, but a fucking parking lot should not take precedence over a food bank!!
see me constantly being pissed off that "historic dairy farms" get preferential treatment over native species and habitats at point reyes
Yeah, I get it for, like, a historical bank or some art piece or something, but IT'S A PARKING LOT
better not build something on THE GROUND
I used to live in alameda like 6 years ago and this shit was going on then too. They wouldn't let a reggae club add air conditioning because it would "Destroy the historical integrity of the building"
And definitely not because of racism
the nimbyism and racism are real man
(And definitely racism, because they add AC to historical buildings all the dang time, as it's important to protect artifacts that might be inside the structure with a controlled climate.)
god this article for real makes it worse than just the headliine
The historic building in question:
weaponizing environmental quality laws to harm people who need food
also let me show you where this place is because it's a dump.
Wow. What a historic district.
You can't really see the parking lot they're talking about, it's behind that big geodesic dome
it's an old Air Force Base tarmac!!!
Like, this place in our town is a historic place. It's a series of offices now, but it was a school.
It's a big, weird building with checkerboard, tile floors, carved motifs, a big theater, etc. It's an artsy building.
But that is, like... a parking lot.
Surrounded by a lot of nothing.
it's not even a used parking lot.
it's just old tarmac stuff.
How dare we use that space to feed hungry people.
it's the trapazoid shaped pavement back there.
and then the food bank is to the south.
yeah it's just.. .as everyone has already noted SO FUCKING STUPID. but I'm still like.. incensed.
there's a bunch of liquor distilleries back there, I've been to Faction Brewing a bunch, and there's also a vodka place, and of course the one protesting is a winery.
Excuse you, how dare you denigrate that tarmac’s military service /s
