Caletara:
For Teds, I assume!
How easy is it to earn their trust:
This depends? Teddy tends to start out wary but optimistic. It’s...almost like hit points (in reverse??) like, if you’re a friend’s friend, or have done something caring that they know about, or have been open or thoughtful with them, it lowers the walls a bit more.
They’re pretty easy -

- to befriend but not as easy to earn the full trust of, I’d say. Though they keep getting tossed into situations where people do or have to do things that kind of knock down those walls in a hurry, or, uh, know each other for 800 years, so...

But yeah, I think like, the first 75% or even the first 80, 85% trust is pretty attainable just by being a decent person. That last 15-20% that involves their life or their friends’ lives or trusting someone to not be selfserving in a crisis or ...probably that a small horrible part of a few insecurities aren’t true... that’s a time and proof thing.

How easy is it to earn their MISTRUST:
If you haven’t earned their trust, fairly easy? Teddy starts out optimistic but she is NOT a believer in All People Are Really Good At Heart (“also, that quote is so out of context and reductive in the interest of making people feel good about their bullshit!”) and will retreat back to ‘wary’ if the vibes seem off.

A good example IG: Crane, who they aren’t actually sure if they SHOULD mistrust or if he’s just offputting; and they aren’t mistrusting of him for quite the right reasons (certainly not the REALLY right ones), but they can still point to things he does that make them wary and uncomfortable

If you HAVE earned their trust it’s usually harder -- even if you fuck up in a big way or do something they’d normally see as sketch, a good, solid talk about it and what happened will usually settle things because they know you and that you mean well;

-- but at the same time, if someone actually betrays Teddy’s trust, intentionally, and is someone they put their faith in, the fallout is way worse than if they never trusted them at all. It’s much, much harder and would take a lot more proving to recover from that than to earn trust in the first place.
