I have a lot of Backstory that I've been percolating so I'm torn between spilling all of it everywhere because I like talking about my personal little guys and keeping it secret so it can be a surprise
Current day Sceotrand is a shitty old wizard who hates everyone and lives in a swamp
He grew up extremely lower class, his mother was very kind and understanding and thought the best of people all of the time and he watched people take advantage of that and decided that that was never going to be him, he had to be self sufficient and never do anything that didn't get him something in return
He's good with magic because of who his dad was and he's got a real complex about that, but exactly who taught him magic I have up in the air right now
I mean that might be a good PB because most of his middle/old age has been spent being a nasty fuckboy with age appropriate women and maybe around five years ago he had a fight with one of his special friends, a witch, who called him a nasty old toad and turned him into a frog with the expectation that he'd have to come crawling back and ask her politely
This is all it would take to break the curse, in theory (originally?)
Saying that he needs help and being humble
So of course he's spent five years in the swamp trying to force the spell off by himself and it has since reacted with his experiments and his personality and his inherent magic and taken on a life of its own
His build to start out with would be int (wizard spells) dex (frog stuff) and I would be subobtimizing his build up until he dealt with his shit
Which of course would be effective if he were going around with a group of four people in various states of inspirationally determined youthly heroism
hey there's a couple older, crotchety character concepts floating around,
ok, that's a cursed frog man, so we need a robot--shit, wrong squeenix property
- may have taught the wizard in the heroes party back in the day (there are two versions of this and one version is that he made them do a pain in the ass sidequest and the other version is that they are related and he possesses a faint crumb of responsibility)
i'll take on this burden, i'll make the robot /i'm dragged off stage
DQ does often have some robots!
just throw in a couple "magics" into the backstory and a robot is fine
though if i was going to throw my hat in the ring i would just make a haunted armor
more appropriate to DQ i feel
Haunted Armor of one of the former heroes,
I think if he's in a party with Emily's character part of his character development involves helping her keep her own curse
Looks at all the character pitches... pencils in loosely a DQ valor into my DM bucket list.
(Any DMing will happen after I get a computer that can handle roll20)
having the cool older (crotchety) mage help with the curse I mean
Melt his heart like the grinch
