The oligarchs have very carefully dismantled the ability of ordinary people to get justice. In their greed to get everything and hold all power, they forgot to allow folks to feel like they had hope. Folks with no hope of getting justice within a system, have no reason to uphold the system. Lots of folks are talking about the French revolution and the Russian revolution, but don't forget how FDR addressed the problem in the US. FDR created Federal programs that gave people hope for a scrap of fairness. He stopped violent revolution in the US by making the country a fairer place. He has been viciously hated for it for nearly a hundred years, by the rich people whose necks he saved. When so many ordinary people celebrate the killer of a rich evil man, that is 100% the fault of the oligarchs. In a society where most folks can feel some hope for a fair and decent life, there's not a lot of fertile soil for growing outlaw folk heroes.

It's VERY interesting psychologically and sociologically that the UH CEO shooter is a rich, well-connected, well-educated, libertarian/conservative man. I think it says a lot about our country when the ostensibly elite by any other standards are THAT disenfranchised. His cousin is a politician. He went to a prestigious school and got a master's. He's a successful member of the upper classes/upper middle classes. And the health care system is STILL SO BROKEN that even THIS TYPE OF PERSON becomes THAT desperate when facing down a spinal injury. As someone in forensic psych, my studies have focused on how crime and recidivism in this country have always been a function of class, oppression, and the broken system. It's VERY interesting to see these criminogenic factors extend to someone with this level of privilege.
