That one's a mindblower.
Like you have an option mid-procedure.
You don't have an option mid-procedure. Either the surgeon has to short cut their work, or you get a larger-than-expected bill.
I thought of it in terms of my cancer surgery. Besides the tumor, there were calcifications in the tissue that needed to be removed. My surgeon removed a portion and then waited while the margins were checked. It took at least 2-3 checks to make sure she got all of it.
If there was a time limit on my procedure, she would have to make a best guess, taking more than necessary, and hoping that they got it all.
“There has been significant widespread misinformation about an update to our anesthesia policy,” Anthem BCBS said in a statement to ABC News. “As a result, we have decided to not proceed with this policy change. To be clear,
it never was and never will be the policy of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to not pay for medically necessary anesthesia services. The proposed update to the policy was only designed to clarify the appropriateness of anesthesia consistent with well-established clinical guidelines.”
If it was just misinformation, all they had to do was clarify it, not scrap the policy.
That sounds like rump-saving doubletalk.
Translation: "Damn, this was a BAD week to try and sneak in that announcement."
