[wicked][haven't seen the new movie yet, just being a curmudgeon] sits here with the irreparable changes the novels did on my brain chemistry as a teen and mutters "why do they keep casting white boys as Fiyero though"

like to be clear, do I think the musical needed to incorporate the textual racial tensions around the Vinkus that the novel has? no, they barely manage to stick the landing on the subtextual racial tensions around Animals.

the musical doesn't need more nuance the musical is a vehicle for Idina Menzel to belt "fuck all y'all I'm out" which is a good and worthy tradition

but on the other hand. Novel!Fiyero is dark skinned with prominent cultural body art. Why do they keep casting white boys as Fiyero.

The book is much darker than the musical and it's been years since I read it, but I remember very much enjoying it!
