So Brody has like a tumor thingy (benign) on his chest, he has a build up of fatty tissue on his left back leg's inner thigh. He's about 12 years old and he's always been about ~70 lbs and a super food motivated dog
And today he's having it rough
The fatty tissue build up is impacting his ability to walk and he's limping so heavily it's hard to watch and we're just encouraging him to rest the day
In September we were supposed to do a surgery to remove said fatty build up but we were worried the surgery stress would be worse than his current ailment
AND AT THE TIME he was fine
He could still move around, he was running when you yelled SQUIRREL like typical Brody behavior
So idk what happened, it seemed like overnight it just got unbearable for him to walk with it :c
What's kinda irritating is my dad was like "oh, he's just constipated" lol
FATHER. NOTHING ABOUT THAT LIMP SAYS ow my butt
So my dad didn't want to schedule an appointment until I started pressuring him and fussing
Brody is the family dog, really, he's my dad's dog. They are inseperable
I still love Brody of course, but I am not his go-to human by a long shot and I have 3 cats to divide my attention between
I JUST FEEL LIKE my dad should've I dunno, made the appointment as soon as he saw Brody limping even if it might be something simple like constipation WHICH IT CLEARLY IS NOT
So by the time I fussed the vet had no openings today so his appointment is tomorrow
Will tomorrow be a surgery? I doubt it, though they do have emergency surgeries and since he refused a treat and isn't moving I think we need an emergency surgery
As resilient as Merrill was on her hunger strike with the IBD issues back in the spring, dogs do not have any such resilience.
It would be the same surgeon Merrill had, too. So I do trust them with Brody and to make sure he gets seen to and all that
Anyway. Hug your puppers, I'll update tomorrow after we see what the vet says at the appointment
i'm sorry Alex, and sorry your dad has been such a bugger about it
Yeah, I'm not sure why my dad is being reluctant about getting Brody to the vet. Granted, I know the price tag for the surgery is a big deal. So I'm guessing that is probably why he's coping and saying it's "constipation" when it's clearly not
I can't blame him, it's gonna hit like a truck and it's holiday season to make matters worse
probably that and also a reluctance to admit his buddy is getting old and sick
Yeah... that's a very good point
ohhhh noooooo not baby boy brody......
hope ur dad takes him to the vet asap
wow i can read (ur going tmrw
i hope its not too bad i hope he gets a lot of hugs and kisses too
Vet told us to up his pain meds he usually takes for arthritis until tomorrow's appointment and he managed to walk like 30 ft from the house so it seems to be helping!
I'll give him extra ear scritches on your behalf
can u kiss im on his head for me too
Update: He has a torn ligament in his leg and needs 2 operations :c
first is to remove the mass in his thigh
Then after that heals they can tend to the torn ligament
It is a total of 7500 sooooooooooo
It's so much money and we aren't sure, realistically, how much time it will buy him so to speak
Right now, it sounds like Katie wants the first surgery for sure
My dad is having a hard time with this, it wasn't the news we expected
Update: First operation to remove the mass is scheduled for the 27th, it's the earliest they could get him in since it currently isn't considered life-threatening
Brody's still eating, he's still moving around if a bit haphazardly, he's still very much his usual self so I'd say it's a fair assessment. But we're to call if anything changes
honestly, aside from the exorbitant cost of the surgery, that's honestly a relief
Yeah, I'm glad we're going through with the surgery and also glad it's after the holiday chaos of all the siblings being here
He seems more annoyed at his predicament than anything which is probably a good sign attitude wise
it sucks he's essentially crippled right now, but idk that sounds preferable to, like, the Big C or something like that.
