[minor gripe] Offered to pick up Boudin (local soup place) for dinner for my parents which they agreed to. But this morning they're now saying to just pick up bread because they bought the same soup from Costco and we can just heat it up.
Like I was gonna bring by fresh soup made in house that day, and they're like: nah lets get this one full of preservatives thats the same brand instead.
And it feels a little like my mom is undercutting my offer in a way. Like oh you were going to bring me something? how can I turn this around so I'm giving something to you?
so today they were out of the green onion dip I normally get for snacks, so I got a different one and it's not that great. So I messaged my mom who also likes green onion dip to be like "I tried this other one, pass if they're out of the good stuff" And instead of having any sort of normal reaction she messaged me back that
so I had to yell at her to not fucking do that because wtf? I was just saying this one isn't very good, it wasn't a plea for help? and also green onion dip is not an emergency? We're having a bomb cyclone with warnings to stay off the roads and she wants to drive over here to bring me green onion dip.
Sob TOO much attention. I think a lot of people (well, afab people) in our parents’ generation dedicated their entire life to BEING A MOTHER or whatever and with an adult child they have no clue how to get any other identity back so they just double down
