And it looks like I'm about to have the first "fuck-off-I-don't-want-to-know-you-anymore" of the post-election season. Someone who I thought I knew as a decent human being just put up a post on the Book of Faces that began with the sentence "Looking forward to mass deportations."
They went on to talk about labor camps for detained "illegals" to earn the cost of their plane tickets home ("nobody wants to spend American dollars on flying illegal immigrants home") and wondering if there would be bounties for turning "illegals" in.
In this day and age I'm honestly not sure whether or not they are being sarcastic. But if they're even remotely serious I will have nothing to do with them ever again, including being in the same room at parties. I have fucking standards.
UPDATE: False alarm. They got back to me and said "Fuck no, I am not serious." A good thing to, seeing as how I really respect this person and would have hated to cut them out.
...............okay I was gonna say I really hope that's all sarcastic, but yeah it's really hard to tell these days, and we've had some nasty surprises lately.
I think it's more a commentary on how much reality has lapped satire. Even a few years ago I would have looked at that and laughed it off as ridiculous.
have to agree with having the "read the room" conversation, because I would have the same reaction if someone I thought I knew well posted that shit, and other people would probably would feel hurt and terrified
