currently at about 80% of my stuff boxed up not including the things I'll be using over the next week; I still have 1-2 boxes of books to pack away and enough DVDs for a single box, plus miscellaney to throw in somewhere
- vacuum out the car
- finish sewing projects: lounge pants for lil sis, replacing the zipper on my fleece coat
- pack up sewing shit afterward (probably leaving the box of fabric behind for later)
- pack food much closer to my leaving date; I have tea and energy drink stuff and some non-perishables like ramen and oatmeal I wanna take
- get internet set up either next week or once I get there
finished:
- getting electric set up for my move-in date
- ordered a modem/router combo so I wouldn't have to pay a rental fee, that'll get delivered next week for me to take with
NEED to remember to take the purple cat carrier with me and set up the big carrier in the house next week for Simba to get used to it again
kitchen stuff is mostly packed, one of my dad's friends had some extra stuff to give me so I'm waiting on that before I get these boxes taped up
I'm thinking I'll probably be more or less done with actual packing by early next week and then I can spend the rest of the week planning my route, picking out what hotel I want to stop at during my road trip etc
I'll be able to get cable internet at my apartment and I'm actually going to try the cheap 150 mbps speed, you don't actually need high download speed as long as latency is good for online gaming.... and how often do I download large files anymore??? it's just occasionally
hella busy, I have basically been using my downtime at work to pack if I'm not tagging rofl
oh yeah I'm getting that poster container in the mail today so I'm going to finish getting the stuff off my walls today probably. and bathroom cleanout is like 90% done
I need to renew my AHIMA membership too??? hggghhhh I'll have to check and see when it actually expires
... oh did it expire in September ROFL my bad
okay paid for my membership
ty
I'm feeling good about the amount of stuff I'm getting done
also: as a habitual youtube enjoyer I'm going to take my sweet time actually getting a TV. I have the luxury of waiting for black friday or christmas sales too so it won't be too much longer before I can shop for a decent one tbh
though the one thing I actually want out of a TV is to be able to plug it into my computer ..... because I adblock youtube and I don't want to pay a monthly fee to watch without ads LOL
plus if I could set up a big screen for gaming like that it'd be a lot of fun
be the adult we want to be
!
Trucking along like a boss!
flops here... vacuumed out the car and I'm also going to try to get this sewing done today. my BFF got me nervous about getting my catalytic converter stolen but I after some research and checking my dad's repair manual it looks like it'd be extremely difficult to steal from my model of car
like 'jack the car up and take off panels' difficult so I'm not too worried about that one
packing like 85% to 90% done, I got a lot done yesterday evening between youtube videos and I also want to get the blankets and extra jackets I'm taking in the big vacuum sealed bag
doing that this weekend ideally
my uncle was talking about how you don't sweat in Abq because there's absolutely no humidity.... I can't wait. I got sweaty after 8 minutes in the garage vacuuming and it's like 78 F outside rn.
I drink a ton of water in my day to day and it's probably just because this part of Texas is like the armpit of hell and going outside at all means sweating and losing that water pretty quickly
.... I spent all that time sewing a new zipper onto my old fleece jacket and it doesn't fit anymore.... my hips are too big for it to zip up at the bottom........
it was an old coat I wore in high school so I guess I should've expected that but
curses, foiled again by my hourglass body
betrayed. betrayed by body-ody-ody......
I know it sounds like a nice problem to have but it does make shopping for clothes a little difficult
I still have a waist-length leather jacket but uhhh I'll just have to buy a new coat while I'm there, it's already been getting to lows of 30 F. I have plenty of things to layer with but the old folks were being kind of paranoid about it lol
jaderhade might recognize the pillow you made for me ages ago in here.... I haven't used it much so it's still good
omg!!
i'm glad you still have it haha
it'll be great for my achey back after all this moving and unpacking
after doing all this cleaning.... it appears that my mysterious bouts of itchy palms were in fact because I'm allergic to dust
I figured it was either that or a cat allergy but I didn't know for sure until I had to actually clean this dusty-ass room
packing's at about 95% done! the rest of it will be cleaning up my room a bit, the last 5% is mostly clothes and makeup I'm not packing until like Friday-Saturday
and Friday after work is when I'm going to pack up my computer equipment and start loading up the car /o/
I'm really glad I'm finished with the bulk of it... for a few days there I was too tired to be creative, but tonight I'm more raring to go
damn Abq is going to have a high of 50 F when I get there on Monday.... you know what the high is today where I live? it's 84 F
it's amazing how much difference a 13-14 hour drive makes
got paranoid about having room in my car, so I looked up better packing techniques and now I'm ranger rolling every shirt in these plastic totes I have
holy shit, even more effective than rolling up my clothes was stuffing socks into all of the shoes I packed. 10 out of 10, feels like a real actual 'one weird trick'
(how am I going to carry these heavy totes from my car and up a flight of stairs? that's a problem for Future Me tbh)
uhhh so I already vented to a couple of people but as it turns out, you can't pack much into a compact car
;;
the easiest solution would be if dad would drive our family van with me to take the rest of my stuff ..... but he's pretty unwilling to do that. he just said he'd ship the rest of my things to me
(putting a hitch on my car to tow a small uhaul trailer would cost around $500 and dad doesn't like the idea of me hauling around a trailer anyway)
(including the rental cost of the trailer in that estimate btw)
this also means I can't take my bean bag chair with me, rip. I bought a vacuum bag big enough for it but idk if dad will be willing to ship it to me, his solution was just 'well buy a new one when you get there' like k then....
fucking seriously, my dad's retired, he could take a few days to help me move. that he's so unwilling to physically help me is just.... well I expected it but it's super disappointing.
I'm amazed that he'd rather take the more expensive shipping and replacing route than put in any work
(actually, can you ship it yourself? It's what I did when I moved back from the UK)
(that way you wouldn't have to rely on anybody else and their schedules for the shipping)
I have a limited amount of time left before I leave so idk that I can even do any alternatives.... I don't really mind him handling the shipping, I don't think he'll snoop in my boxes
the bean bag itself probably would just be easier to replace, more because of the sheer difficulty in squishing it back down to a manageable size
like I could take it in a big enough car, but getting it into a box is nigh impossible
man
taking out the stuffing and replacing it at your new home isn't feasible either, I'd wager
it might be if I weren't soooo low on space that I'm worried I won't even be able to fit all the essentials in my car lol
I'll def consider it if I can squeeze anything else in my car but right now diek
it's def a good idea though, buying new filling would be a fraction's cost of buying a new one... I'll see what I can do
or... shit wait it might not be, I'd need around ~40 lbs of memory foam to fill a 4 ft bean bag and the prices for THAT much are pretty bad
I'm sorry
Taking out the filling and replacing it is how a relative managed to transport her waterbed, but that's hardly the same as a bean bag
omg dad's gf actually tried to help me shove things in my trunk??? dad didn't do jack shit except check on my progress
managed to get a surprising amount of boxes in my car tho, I'll worry about the rest tomorrow
I had to leave out a box full of clothes... and there’s other things I need to properly box up to have shipped to me later, those'll be tasks for tomorrow
I did it..... I somehow got all the essentials in my car along with some smaller things I just wanted to take
it was like Jenga with heavy lifting lmao
all I have left to do tonight is properly box up what I couldn’t take with me so dad can ship it to me over time
might vacuum my room one last time if I have any energy left later
ngl I'm debating if I even want to buy another bean bag when they make couches with chaise lounges attached..... so that'll be a question better left for later
it's legit at the point where if I open the passenger back door, stuff would fall out
better get ready to grab once it's time to unload!
at least unloading ought to be easier overall
till it all ends up falling on your foot
I'm at the hotel for the night! I'm about 3 1/2 hours away from my apartment
the trip went swimmingly overall, it was just such a long drive that it got boring... and I had to drive in the rain for like 3 hours.... and I drove after dark for a little but, but I made it to the hotel i wanted /o/
tomorrow I oughta be able to make it to my apartment before noon to pick up my keys
Simba only yowled a little bit, he's been stressed the whole rest of the time.... he's hiding behind a trash can right now rofl. he relaxed enough to come out for pets but... that whole trip he just huddled in a corner of his car carrier like o_o the whole time
hopefully tonight he'll relax enough to get some sleep.... I need sleep for tomorrow too
made it to my apt fine today, it was just a LOT of work to get unpacked before night fell.... and then I had to go to the store for supplies.... my back is killing me
poor Simba basically hid for hours until I was finally done with chores and could hang out with him
my plan for tomorrow is to try to get my internet up, I have. nowhere to put a computer yet but I can use wifi on my tablet at least
slightly worried I may have fucked up my address on those deliveries b/c I didn't put what unit I'm in, sigh
I am honestly too goddamn tired to feel excited yet, but maybe it'll sink in here in a few days
internet GET. I set up my computer before I set up my microwave, that's what my priorities are like rofl
earlier I got a ton of shit at Sam's I needed - cheap table and chair, microwave, mattress - and I nearly killed myself getting the mattress up the stairs
;;
the dolly I bought had wheels that were too small rip.... a neighbor had to help me do it
having a chair to sit in at all makes my back feel so much better though nnnngh
lmfao I got my desk all set up but FedEx delivered my computer chair to the wrong address??? it's in a carpeted hallway which, no way that's my apartment building anywhere
maybe it's the school across the street???? like christ thanks for being useless FedEx
it's annoying but the cheapo folding chair I bought the other day is comfy enough for work.... in the meantime I told both the Amazon seller and FedEx that they fucked up
