[tagging bc this is a YT music dump now] I started work late bc of pain so I still have 2 hrs, I have a migraine (blaming 🐘s) and all I want to do is WRITE
Oh AND! AND! some kid in my nibling’s kindergarten class (who’s been verbally bullying her for weeks) punched her, UNPROVOKED, so hard the whole front of her dress was bloody. fam consensus is: holy shit holy shit wtf and also: we’re concerned about what the bully is seeing in her life bc ...what. but I’m scared the school’s not gonna make sure E’s safe?
So my SIL is going to be asking them very firmly what they intend to do about this, and she plans to ask that those plans involve counseling for the other kid
I feel bad for her older brothers, too, bc they are solidly too old to be scary at a 5 year old, but they both for obvious reasons want to MURDER someone. And like. Man. I get that.
Anyway, I’m stressed and I want a mental escape! Oof. Gotta get to work tho
Anyway, switching to Your DJ for The Night! We're starting off with a favorite musician covering a favorite band, not TOO close and not too far away from the original:Claudio Covers: Just Like Heaven (Cure cover)
I want to draw attention to the beginning of the description: "This song was introduced to me by some friends as a cover done by Dinosaur Jr. They were skaters, so the reference to “tricks” at the top of the song conjured up ideas of a smitten lover’s curiosity for executing kick-flips and rail slides. (...)"
Jon Batiste Hears Green Day For The First Timethe title is misleading (as soon as she tells him it's Green Day he's like, "BILLIE!")-- he hasn't heard this SONG (Holiday) though and he immediately, of course, crafts the perfect piano underneath
it's also just a fun video. i feel like jon batiste is going to end up being my next rabbithole-of-weird-videos bc i know him from guesting a few times with rock musicians but he's just insanely talented and WEIRD in the best way
on the other hand, someone put Raul Esparza's version of Come To Your Senses back on YT, which is great because my life was missing something I couldn't put a finger on:Come To Your Senses
Billy Joel Medley [Remastered] - 19 songs in 6 minut...If you don't know Jared Halley and you like acapella, or you think you might like acapella, here you go. This isn't a new one of his but I thought of muttonchops also I'm pretty sure this is the medley that made me realize how much Billy Joel I knew
This does have the same issue as most of his other medleys (he doesn't only do this) which is that I usually want to hear the whole song after he does the first 40 seconds or whatever. If you watch or go browse his other stuff, watch for at least one of his squares that's just for dancing around.
There's a fuller version of this song, which is about growing up evangelical (or Christian in general, but there is pretty obvious, unglossed reference to missionary trips) and breaking with the church, but I like this stripped down backstage version with Medium Build and JB.Medium Build - Yoke (Live with Julien Baker)
I'm sure you're correct because I DON'T know this one - so it's prolly not A Big Single - but it is lovely and it really shows off his voice, I can see why you like it. I'm not catching every lyric but I'm getting good like -- specific imagery/mood too, which I think is something he's really good at
Ben Barnes "Beloved" [Official Video]did you know Ben Barnes was an extremely good singer? I ... well, I did, that's why I'm subscribed to him, but I didn't know he had a new album coming out. This single is catchy af and, while I am still not sure what the story is with that quote from Great Expectations, I love the vibe of this song
AURORA - My Body Is Not Mine (Warriors Version)totally different genre. I love AURORA. Warning for -- nothing particularly graphic in the lyrics but implication of abuse, as well as various discrimination and war/death, etc in various interpretations by her "warriors" (who all do a really beautiful job, this one definitely hit home). Stick around for the end. ❤️💚🖤
