One month ago I never thought this would really happen. It still has many problems that could be improved. For example, the story is too long, so I started to stammer in the last three parts. But I’m so glad that I could have the experience from it.

The preparation process was so hard. I started from checking every word's meaning, practiced pronunciation, and tried to change my tone and mood when I’m reading the story.

I also translated English to Mandarin by myself, because people could comprehend the story in so many different ways. I want to share the story in my own way so I just did it. It’s a big challenge and costs me a lot of time and energy but it's really worth it. And I thought I want to do it again. But definitely not now. I need a long rest.

And I’m so glad this post is my hundredth English practice post. It’s meaningful to me. I never thought this group could go so far. Thanks to everyone who still stayed in the group. Love you guys so so much.

【Q&A】
01.Which character is your favorite in this story?
My top choice definitely is Gared.

02.If you die will you want to become the Others or not?
I might not want to, because I don’t want to hurt my friends. But If my favorite character died, I'd hope he becomes the Others. So I could read more of his stories.

【My Opinion】
01.The reason why I love this chapter so much.
Even though it's just a short chapter, the writer still made all the characters really alive and persuasive. And he writes stories cleverly. He let the characters show their different personalities from the words they said.

And readers could have so many different views and opinions from those conversations. The most important thing is the characters serve the story, not the story serves them. Every word they said is because the story needs it. And the conversations really impressed me.

02.How I observed three characters in the story.
First I want to talk about Will. I wont say he’s a coward. Because the Others emerge is a special situation. He just does things more cautiously.

And It is also important to try to live and bring the tidings about the Others back to Castle Black. So I won't blame him for not helping the young knight. If I am Will, I might keep silent too. I don’t have the courage that Ser Waymar Royce had. So I admire him for fighting the Others bravely.

In the story, Will’s remark about Ser Waymar Royce changed three times. From a boy to a man, then a boy again. It’s really interesting.

At first, I thought Royce was so arrogant, but when I finished the whole chapter I changed my mind too. There is a small difference between arrogance and inferiority. I thought his attitude might be just his armor.

He came from an ancient house but couldn’t inherit anything, and he knew that black brothers laughed at him in their cups. So He was eager to honor himself and prove his capability. But deep inside him, might still be a boy who wanted to be understood and approved.

And here is a sentence from the story. “Royce paused a moment, staring off into the distance, his face reflective.” Based on this, I thought he might have felt the danger too, but he didn’t want to lose his first chance to prove himself. So the determination to keep track of the wildlings made him overlook all the dangers. Then died for it.

Finally, comes my favorite character Gared. He was an old man who liked to tell stories. And He had enough experience to sense the danger and kept trying to convince his young commander back to the Wall where it was more safe.

But even though he's an old man, he still angry sullenly like a kid when he was to be provoked. It’s cute in my eyes. And the fire between Ser Waymar Royce and Gared impressed me so much. Even though it is just a quarrel, not a real fight.

I’m alway attracted to some old angry men in stories. Someone said that old men and children are both closest to the unknown world. One came from it not long, and another one almost back to it. So they will share some mysterious feelings more easily and have some interesting fights or adventures together.

So I also love some movies like The little prince (2015), Up (2009), Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022). An old man and a kid, they always could do some crazy things and become close friends.

But “A Song of Ice and Fire” has a cruel world like the real one, so they don’t have any chance to do more things together or know each other more. How sad.
