Let's meet Morgana Le Fay! Is she a witch or a fairy? Or both? Is there a difference? A witch is a woman with "powers" that people are afraid of; while a fairy is a woman with powers that people like. (Or one on which they have no power, so they have to be nice to her.)

Also, "fairy" is "fée" en French; sounding very much like "fey". They just got the gender wrong; is should be "La Fée". ;-)

StereoNacht: Apperently, there is a gray area - Morgana Le Fey is described as a fairy, but later stories reveal numerous evil deeds. She reminds me of the old fairy in the Sleeping Beauty (No. 7 at Perrault's and No. 13 at Grimms' versions) - this fairy is never described as good and never as a witch.

StereoNacht: On the other hand, we have all kinds of witches in the Land of Oz, right?

True. Feys are sometimes wicked (not necessarily bad, but they like to mess with people) creatures. But so strong people can't fight them... Unless they have iron.

And yes, modern days have created some "good" witches stories, but historically, people have always called a witch a woman who knew a little too much, and went after her the minute something goes bad.
