Most of it was HTML/CSS code, but still... I never knew that limit existed

This has happened to me once before and it jumpscared me so much. I didn’t even realize it existed until then either

I think I did know but in the context of 'look the limit is somuch higher than it was on LJ! We don't need to split our app comments as much now!

seriously? I almost never make TLs, so I had absolutely no idea LJ had an even lower character limit

I wish they wouldn't count html/css code as part of the character count, at least

as for app comments, most of the games I've been playing at the past few years allowed linking to apps so I never had that issue
still, higher character limit is always a welcome improvement

anyway, yeah. I don't remember what the limit was on LJ but it was so little it wasn't uncommon for apps to need to be broken up into 3 or 4 comments. Or had to be linked.

a quick google search tells me it's currently 4300

which probably explains why so many games give a character limit for apps these days

but now that you mention it, I do have a vague memory of seeing apps broken up into ~3 comments, even for my earlier dw games
it was so long ago I had completely forgotten

I think it took a bit for people to realize how many more characters DW gives you
