turns out Morph is a tough one because there seem to be no general-purpose shifters in WoD, all shifters are Assigned Furry

but I think my best option is that they're a changeling, a moth pooka specifically

a selkie may also work but being a bizarre insect type pooka means that their chimerical appearance can still be close to canon. maybe with big insect eyes instead though hell yeah

though if anyone has recommendations for what sort of furry Morph would be I'll gladly take them. I don't think I could make a blobfish work so that's off the table

it also means the WoD versions of the X-Men could easily just be a ragtag group of different supernaturals. changelings hang out with werewolves sometimes I believe so the team wouldn't necessarily have to be all one type of creature

though I am tickled by the idea of a pooka that just hangs around a werewolf cairn as I believe cairns and freeholds can cross over with each other to some extent

the only issue with picking a pooka is that they are required to lie constantly.... I am not sure if they have to also do it in their mortal guise or if it's only while interacting with other changelings

(also: changeling blood makes vampires trip out just fyi)

probably what happened was that Morph was an unwilling minion for a while, possibly even briefly ghouled but it couldn't have been for long because that's Bad for changelings generally

seems to be bad and/or impossible depending on the version of the rules

as a bonus, with faerie magic Morph can still change into animals... unfortunately for everyone else, they can also change other people for brief periods of time

luckily 'bigger effects' are more expensive / harder to do which means casting faerie magic on strangers is also harder
