I assumed I would also need to cancel plans to maybe do a backup race two weeks later (so just under three weeks from now), but she was immediately like nah I think you'll be fine. So put a pin in that!
I can see the wound better now with some of the stitches out and it is definitely knitting together but uhhhh a bit dented lol
Doc said that is just how it'll be until tissue starts filling in, and even when it's fully "healed" as in not bleeding/scabbing etc and I'm allowed to do normal athletics, it still takes months to heal in and look normal
so if I'm looking to resume my career as a leg model I still have to wait that time before consulting a plastic surgeon, she noted
Also it turns out the sports doc I've been seeing to write my PT prescriptions also works days at this urgent care, so she took a pic to send to him and I will have him take the remaining stitches out next Sunday
So I get to see Hot Doc again, who would have guessed
but probably for the best i'm sorry i know how hard youve been working
Thanks friendo. Yeah it does super suck but I'm just joining the ranks of people who have had to cut races for injury, and those also sucked, but idk it's weirdly comforting knowing that this shit just happens sometimes
I'm sorry you have to miss your race. But I hope you get to do one of your backups!
sorry that this ended up having to be the call, but it sounds like you and your doctor came to that decision together and it's good to know you've got some other things lined up! take care of yourself ;;
Signed up for Atlantic City
Was antsy about doing so before the stitches are out, but available slots were running very late and both doc & Gail gave the thumbs up.
If I flame out at least it was way cheaper than NYC lol
I gotta go back to urgent care to get a letter from a physician advising me not to run Wineglass to make the insurance claim on that, which is annoying bc I would have asked for that Saturday if I knew. Ah well.
man, even though it sounds like it's for the best, how disappointing, esp given the work you'd already put in!
yes definitely
Oh weh I just noticed Wineglass is no longer appearing as an upcoming rain on my training app, which means Gail took it off, which I really appreciate
Because seeing the countdown and having to take it off myself would both have been little knives in my heart
I'm mostly at peace with not doing Wineglass but I canceled my hotel reservation today and that weirdly stung
Got my entry fee refund from race insurance, hooray for not eating the $150
lol the insurance company replied to the initial filing asking for my initial registration receipt, which I forwarded, and also for the doctor's note specifically advising me not to run and I was like
It's on page 2 of the pdf I submitted already? Did you check page 2
(I think they hadn't checked page 2)
send them the first picture of your knee
I made a pdf of two images, with the initial doctor visit summary sheet on page one, because the physician recommendation form I downloaded from the insurance company's own website was a little bare bones and I was trying to demonstrate NO THIS REALLY DID HAPPEN I DIDN'T JUST FAKE FILL THE FORM OUT
LOL TRUE maybe as a bonus you can show them the ones you drew faces on. optional viewing for fun.
so I think they might not have scrolled lol. It's fine, I'm sure an underpaid person with a lot of work to do was handling it, it got fixed.
yeah those would be more fun
I was thinking of a health insurance company not a race insurance one
Oh yeah no, when I registered for the marathon last winter, they also had the option to pay 12 bucks for race insurance and I'M PATTING MYSELF ON THE BACK FOR BUYING IT
oh man YEAH THAT IS REALLY GOOD VALUE FOR $12
Wineglass was not as expensive as some races but $150 is $150 and I'm glad to have that back in my pocket if I can't use it on Running
