Every time, I listen to some excellent speeches about how to learn English well by reading books. I’ll always be excited and have an ambition to try to read some English books.

But just like most people, I opened a book with excitement, read one or two pages and lost my patience as quickly as I could. In the end, I sold all the books to the second hand store.
After so many fierce blows hit me I started to believe that I’ll neve finish any English books. My English will sucks forever. Until I got the idea of reading novels while listening to audiobooks from “The Power of Picture Book.”
The benefit of reading books with audiobooks is enormous. I could connect words with their pronunciation easily, the reader's voice makes everything become vivid, also it gives me more space to imagine scenes and characters. That gave me the faith to trust myself just one more time.

So I bought “A Song of Ice and Fire” for the second time. (Yes, I've bought the same box set and sold it before.) And to avoid the same awkward situation that I've done several times before, I inspected my failure and made some rules for myself.
1.Tear the books apart at once when it’s delivered. So I can’t sell it to anyone. Read it or toss it then waste money.
2.Never care about those bloody reading levels or if it’s useful for tests or life. Only choose what I love.
3.Don’t waste time to remember words or write too many notes.
4.Using a scan pen or other tools reduces the time that I spend on searching for new words.
5.I can always read my favorite part first and I don't need to read it in order.
6.Keep doing it everyday, even just a paragraph. But never punish myself if I break off. Just take it up again.
7.The important part is to enjoy the story and immerse myself in it.
