Onomatophobia: TLDR: Because different chemical dyes dissolve at different rates, when you melt ice through them you get color varigation in the end product! the dye page I linked is a set of new dyes from this company that are formulated specific for this process so they come out as a bunch of different colors under ice

(rather than being mixed into water first and then applied to the fabric that way ie traditional dyeing)

so you get results like this (brown and green is two "colors" allowed to split, square is one color)
