There's a lot of racism lurking in FFXIV fandom and players as a whole, and it's something I've witnessed and even experienced for a long time, well before Dawntrail racism ramped it up

I've been called a snowflake attention whore because my character's skin is blue. No, you fuckwad I just like the color blue.

I've also entered duties on my male au ra alt and sometimes someone immediately calls me a sexual predator, because of the most unfunny "joke" this community has (that all male au ra are pedophiles/predators)

Ironically, as much as Lala players complain about ingame player racisim, people have always been nice to my Lalafell

but yeah it's like...I play and chat exactly the same across all five of my characters, but I often get different reactions based on which one I'm playing

There's one guy who makes really funny FFXIV shorts but...he also is weirdly obsessed with making constant male au ra predator jokes

not in his videos, but on twitter

Every time I saw a tweet from him it's another fucking pedo male au ra joke

so I blocked him and stopped watching his stuff

Also I'm just dreading the day someone tells me my Viera would look better if I made his skin lighter (he wouldn't, he's specifically designed to make you think of a tree)

and no one cares about fem Hroths enough to say mean things about them (in fact people only say nice things about mine)

the fact that I have to wonder if someone ingame will treat me different because my virtual fantasy avatar isn't white skinned or one of the "acceptable" fantasy races is such a pain in the ass

But I also think to things like the sexism issue, and saw some comments like "lol of course he plays Lalafell" like no there's thousands of Lala players who are perfectly pleasant people to be around

playing Lalafell is not an indicator of a player's attitude and there isn't one type of character that bad people gravitate to

like most of the time I witness or even experience creep behavior, the perpetrator was playing fem au ra, but I don't go around stereotyping every fem au ra player as a creep

I will say every male roegadyn player I've encountered has been extremely friend shaped, but I think that's more because male roes are hella rare

but back to the original topic, I am entirely unsurprised that there are entire FCs of racist Ishgardian RPers because unfortunately Ishgard aesthetics attract that kind of person

"why don't they RP Gridanians then" Gridiania is too "primitive" and "backwater" for them

I do think the "no Duskwights" rule was extremely funny considering most prominent Ishgardian NPCs use Duskwight models

I can just imagine these people furiously looking up every pale Elezen player they come across on the Lodestone to make sure they aren't the dreaded Duskwight

the "clarification" that they didn't mean Duskwights as a whole but skin colors made them look even worse too
