the unsung trial of medical scheduling: someone rolls up like "hi yes i've got a family history of heart conditions, i've been blacking out when i stand up, and i've had chest pain for the past 3 days, can i get scheduled to see my pcp in a week or two" and not being able to physically reach through the phone, shake them, and yell that they need to go to er

(this is btw a real actual call i've had)

(another real actual call i had was someone who drove trucks for a living who had a bunch of signs and brain fog and such that sounded to my untrained ear a lot like a stroke and i could not simply yell at them WHY ARE YOU NOT JUST GOING TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL)

anyway yes the daughter apparently is "feeling better" so despite the fact that she is meant to come in tomorrow to be screened for a concussion and whiplash eh, it's fine, lets do it next friday instead

(disclaimer, all the above calls except the initial one this plurk was made about happened a year or more ago but they sure did happen)

i would genuinely be debating whether to call in medical neglect but i'm also a mandatory reporter

yeah i have to get them over to someone with medical training to tell them to go to the friggin er in cases of chest pains etc

but i'm not allowed to say anything because i myself am not medically trained but i have the illusion of credibility due to working for a doctors office

so i'm not allowed to give medical advice, including the common sense stuff that anybody on the street could tell you, because they may confuse it for like actual Official Medical Advice Greenlit By Doctors

and just have to grin and bear it basically

so like sure, you wanna get scheduled in two weeks? i'm not allowed to tell you what a dumb idea i think that is or i'll be fired so lol sure
