in regards to a trauma game (could also be ran as something lighter), do you prefer:

1. a one night game where you play as a team; it would be anywhere from 4-5 hours with a hard time limit on rounds, but you would have everyone there for reactions/etc in real time. This would be on a Friday or Saturday night, EST time

2. a game that would span a weekend where you can do multiple sessions, but might end up playing by yourself/paired with someone from another team. there wouldn't be limits on time, so it may run much longer. sessions would entirely depend on availability, but would be aiming for fri night/sat afternoon & night/sun morn EST time

I prefer 1. It often feels like when there's multiple sessions there's an aspect of...subsequent sessions turn into gameplay optimization. and in terms of character it just feels better to dedicate one night to a game and how it affects them
1. i feel like there are only some games that work multi-session, because otherwise it drags on and i like trauma punches to the face

also this is kind of as an aside but wrt being paired up with other teams for trauma i think it can go well but my personal pref tends to be trauma with your team instead of trauma with other teams

if only because different teams can play very, very differently ICly and it can make a traumatic game feel Even More Traumatic if there's a lot of infighting, depending on who is paired

ie pairing bluebell and clover would probably be a bad time because they have very different playstyles-
vex appeal

Both sound fun, but 1 would probably be my preference between the two

ty guys!
I only like 2 if there isn't like. A specific way a game is meant to be played, so it doesn't become gameplay optimization, or if there are like THINGS you can get out of multiple sessions that you can't get otherwise. I think that's the big difference between 1 and 2 in terms of preference.
Like, hm. Betrayal has been typically run in multiple sessions, and while there IS a right way to play it, half of what people are playing for is like. the character interactions that can change from session to session. And that's fine. (tho i do think in like the past we have given TOO many sessions to betrayal)
the other thing about really long trauma games is that everything else in the game necessarily screeches to a halt for however long they're ongoing

the thing about 2 is also that im old and can't give my entire weekend to rp anymore

so I'd rather have one dedicated time slot I can focus down than the fomo temptation of multiple sessions
we have it all

this is also a good point.

Yeah I was also going to say definitely 1 because I would much rather a defined intense 4-5 hours than an undefined amount of time which usually means all the time

"You can sign up for multiple sessions" also has a the particular danger for trauma that your level of IC trauma scales up with your ability to OOCly dedicate all your time to it

So if you are a person who is like "I am just going to do one session of this" and there is someone else like "how many sessions are there. six? I will do six" then your character may ICly get "oh, what? you only had to murder all your friends the ONE time? Lucky" which is NOT SUPER FUN

Even if there are not specific sessions that can happen with anything that is "do as much as you want in however much time you want" structure so I def prefer there to be either more structure than that or hard limits on it or both

Whether it is with your team or not is an entirely different dimension and I can go either way depending on the game
