OKAY WELL if we go with Sinister - Madelyne understands exactly what he was doing, is the thing. She knows how he became Like That, why he created her, why she was expendable. There's nothing in there she yearns for more insight into
beyond "how do we murder him in a way that sticks and also hurts a whole lot"
If we go with Jean as parent, there are definitely things about her Maddie still doesn't understand but not so much about their own history and relationship, anymore.
Madelyne only exists because Jean - unconscious, half-dead, cocooned beneath the sea - rejected what was left of the Phoenix. There was a time that made her incredibly angry, and she found it a cowardly thing to do, but it never baffled her.
15. How often does your character “zone out” or do things on autopilot and how severe have the problems that have arisen from that been before? Okay one of the first things Luis says about Zerxus, when he's asked to describe him, is "amber eyes with a troubled, sometimes emptiness, behind them"
So yeah I think it happened a fair amount in those last seven years. Not so much in the heat of battle, though he may have taken more injuries than strictly necessary here and there
but in more mundane duties as a part of the system, absolutely. Which meant he let a LOT of shit pass that he could have noticed or at least tried to stop/mitigate, in a city full of corruption and arrogance
Maggie over here aggressively enforcing self care nights, get your butt over here and eat her cooking and curl up with her on the couch and watch movies or listen to stories. Turns into a wolf occasionally and sprawls across his lap and makes him pet her.

Really the interesting thing is - Zerxus can be incredibly patient/accommodating/long-suffering. His temper has a long fuse in most situations. He's careful with people - not in a cautious way, obviously, but in a gentle way
But he gets attached so fast, and his convictions are so powerful, and both get compounded by loneliness and guilt
and also the father of lies
(watching him play OTHER GODS AKA HIS SIBLINGS like fiddles really makes you feel for zerxus. my dude you never had a chance)
