DO YOU THINK THEY ONLY HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER?????
ARE THIS QRT AND THE PPL REPLYING TO IT JUST TOTALLY MISSING WHAT OP WAS REFERRING TO AND TAKING IT AS A REASON TO GO "YEAH MY SHIP IS MADE FOR EACH OTHER"
I was going to say other things but I actually got so activated by this that I had too many thoughts in a row and lost track of who and where I am
i do think there are cases where characters WERE MADE WITH THE INTENT OF BEING MUTUALLY OBSESSIVE FOILS but also the original tweet is still right. like the quoted one. tf are you guys talking about.
characters being designed as pairs does not actually usually mean that there is nothing about them worth examining outside of that relationship. especially if you are not literally reading a romance oneshot.
frequently, in order to make for a more compelling relationship between the two, characters designed as a pair will have contrasting upbringings or circumstances! which makes it fun and interesting to compare how their difference experiences respectively define them and how they fit together and diverge!
AND THEN YOU CAN ALSO EXAMINE THOSE THINGS SEPARATELY?????
I was taken out by this satosugu namedrop so bad. what are you saying. which of these characters is the one getting watered down in fandom to be a prop for the blorbo one
i understand what they're both saying but it's. i. no.
if your characters that were created as a pair to be foils or whatever can't stand on their own, then you're a bad writer
and if you're watering down a perfectly complex set of blorbos in your fanworks, you're also a bad writer
gojo didn't just fall from a coconut tree
they should be separately interesting and then also really compelling in context of each other. like. how to put this. it's fine and cool if the character is most interesting in the context of their foil relationship to many people, but if you can't do plurk rp memes without godmoding your canon ship partner low-key something is wrong
yeah "these characters only exist in the context of each other" is true for every character based story and also, if the characters GENUINELY only exist in the context of a ship they're not well rounded characters
so what these people are accidentally arguing is "people should stop saying gojo and geto are deep characters" which was clearly not the intent.
my two most recently played rp characters were "girl who has made the entire meaning of her life revolve around This One Dude" and "dude who is so devoted to a guy he looked for him for 400 years and is so designed as a pair with him that there is an in-game ship plaque you can get if you oshi them hard enough"
AND I APPED BOTH OF THESE CHARACTERS WITHOUT THE OBJECTS OF THEIR OBSESSIONS
SO THE SUGGESTION THAT SATOSUGU CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE CONTEXT OF EACH OTHER
WAS LIKE SO WILD TO ME IT BORDERED ON PERSONALLY OFFENDING ME
i mean even in the canon itself like. geto dies before it starts right... so
THEY EXIST SO MUCH OUTSIDE THE CONTEXT OF EACH OTHER THEY LIKE HADN'T EVEN SEEN EACHO THER IN A YEAR
i first started playing geto with. every castmate but gojo lol
wait no you're right. I mixed up the timeline so bad.
I haven't read jjk in a while.
there is a one year gap too, but that's between geto and kenjaku
THEY BOTH WENT ABOUT THEIR OWN LIVES
the way i personally play geto is he never expected to even be friends with gojo again after all of that and he's chill with that
im taken out by gojo didnt fall from a coconut tree and any other thoughts are gone
