I've cut it out for the last couple days and I'm also completely normal
It didn't occur to me until a doctor said lay off dairy just because it's rough on a system in distress because there's nothing in my like, medical profile to suggest I'm at risk for it
as someone who is intolerant of both lactose and gluten, "intolerant" is such a benign word for something that makes you feel like you are literally dying right this second
But I feel better and I'm incredibly relieved to know what it is and that it's something manageable
ALSO check out Lactaid/any lactase enzyme pill - it's a game changer
Welcome to the sad no dairy club. If you can tolerate it tho I rec trying to keep up in small amounts if only bc after five plus years I can’t have any dairy at all 💀
Lactaid helps when I have to tho, highly recommend
epigrammatic: for real!!! i literally had 10/10 stomach cramp pain that put me in the ER
i suspect that what happened was i may have been slowly developing it for awhile, and then i may have had some other thing happen that sort of triggered my stomach to be like "we're not dealing with this anymore actually, friendship ended with lactose, get this bullshit OUT"
because i was under high stress at the time when it got bad
and we know that can fuck a stomach
i am definitely planning to pick up some lactaid and start reintroducing lactose in a couple more days, i'm trying to give it time to heal
but also i ate something today that probably had a tiny bit of lactose (a ceasar salad, the dressing had milk powder in the ingredients) and i feel fine
but like. earlier this week there was a day when i took 5 imodium
that was the day when i didn't have time to eat breakfast so i drank a lot more of a milk-based drink that i have for breakfast
(you're supposed to take an imodium every time you have a 'rrhea)
i wasn't sure i was lactose intolerant but then i cut out lactose and felt fine and i was like, oooohhhh
there are lactose-free options in stuff too
like i've switched to lactose-free cheese and milk
and i also have lactaid for when i can't get a lactose-free option
unfortunately the drink i drink every morning doesn't have a lactose free option
but i am going to pick up some lactaid probably today
apparently you can take it every day as much as you want and it won't hurt you

witchpunk:
opalescent: question for y'all: are these lactose pills more effective if i chew them? i experimented with adding lactose back in today and i took three pills like the bottle says and it definitely helped, i'm not in distress but i'm not like 100% fine either
so i'm wondering whether chewing might release the enzymes more effectively or if i should add another pill
Mine have always been chewable (and mint which is gross before you eat ??) so I can only attest to that kind but I would imagine it helps!
lacteez is better to me despite the mint. The lactaid chewable was horribly flavoured but did ok too
yeah, i got walmart knockoff ones and the bottle said "chew or swallow"
