Not my usual genre, but That One Song from the sequel (you probably know the one) intrigued me, and hey, it was less than 4 bucks during the steam sale.
It is very much not my genre, as I drawn neither to horror-y sorts of things nor shoot-y shorts of things.
But I put it on easy mode, so that was all fine.
The one thing I didn't like was the camera over the shoulder thing. Like, I get how it's helpful for aiming, but it's decidedly not helpful for walking in a straight line.
But that's, like, the one thing I didn't like.
I do very much like how they pull out when you're being attacked to show you where things are coming from, so you don't have to guess at it.
The whole slowing things down briefly when you finish off the last member of a pack of Taken thing is also nice
The bloody speedster Taken were a nuisance, but in the same way that every game tends to have That One Nuisance Mob.
The best part, though, was how much detail they put into the environments. Oh my gosh that was great.
If you get lost, you can look for a light, and it's either the next checkpoint or makes itself obvious enough as where you came from that you can reorient.
When there are puzzles where you need to find a generator to turn on, you can look to see where the power lines lead.
...granted I'm not sure who is leaving all these guns just lying around, but hey, I've never been to the Pacific North-West.
(There are also an awful lot of broken down cars around that no one has cleaned up, but I guess when half the town is turning into zombies...)
Barry is a fun character. And I appreciate his ingenuity in wrapping himself in Christmas lights near the end there, I'm not sure how effective it is but he's got a good idea going.
Sheriff Breaker, I feel, could have used a bit more screentime, but I appreciate that she has a good head on her shoulders.
And that last bit... ohhhh that last bit where you bring things into existence by pointing the flashlight at the words. That was so cool. I wish there'd been more of that.
So, yeah. Had a good time. Will play the sequel if/when it comes to Steam.
