MSQ HAS BEEN DEFEATED
this expac falls on the better side of average to me; i think i probably like it as much as heavensward
so, it goes probably stormblood, ARR, HW, DT, END, SHB for me
in terms of which i liked the best
and that ranking is partially bc of my preferences regarding tropes, NPCs that got introduced, etc
i'm going to have fun getting all my classes up to 100, and leveling all my crafters and gathering roles
it was well worth the money
music: i'm not really sold on the music for this expac unfortunately
some of it's good; tuliyollal theme grew on me actually and i love it, but the swing and jazz threw me at first
but some of the other songs/remixes i could leave them firmly behind
i'm also not a fan of westerns (aesthetically or musically) so i could leave that whole map area behind, AGAIN, JUST ME
i guess i can kind of see why people came to dislike wuk lamat towards the end; i don't, but if people played this game building up lots of thoughts/feelings/etc for their WOL, i can see why they'd be annoyed
the WOL very much took a narrative backseat this expac, for SURE
since wuk lamat ended up being the "main" character by default, maybe people who put a lot of love into coming up with things for their WOL felt like their fav/OC/etc was overshadowed when they expected them to be the main char, per usual
(i would argue that stormblood did the same thing, except i don't care about either hein or lyse, so)
the second half of the story was SO DIVORCED from the first half (imo) that it almost felt like i was playing two different expacs
i largely liked the first half better, by SPADES
i kind of wish there had been a much longer gap between wuk lamat and koana ascending to the throne and zoraal ja attacking
even just a handful of weeks would've been good
but i guess i can understand why they didn't
narratively, it makes no sense for the scions to stick around that long
(though i'm a big fan of the gang departing after thinking they finished their work only to have to come back together)
ANYWAY i might actually just pack up the ps5 right after this since i won't be able to play it starting thurs anyway
and i have enough to do
Yeah I was talking with a friend and I described this experience something along the lines of 'right about level 95, it feels sort of like you're doing 90mph on the highway and the transmission falls out'

But that's still kind of how I felt

Once we got the the final zone the momentum had picked up again and I enjoyed (and sobbed over) that part
But the bit right after the dome appeared until shortly before we killed Zoraal was... I was kinda dragging myself through it
The dino nugget helped make it better
...I guess my biggest criticism is that it was a story that probably needed a bit more time to be told, but also I'm not sure how they could take the time with the game play they have established
yeah, i' thinking in terms of gameplay constraint
i think taking the time to do all the misc subquests in the area, not just the aether current ones, really heps slow down because i tried to do as many as possible
and that helped with the pacing
not a ton, but a bit
