Going in with absolutely no expectations since I'm still disappointed they passed on the chance to do something focused on the craziness of the old Sith Empire
so I've been avoiding literally every bit of news / info about it
all I know is Ki Adi Mundi is in it because a screen of him showed up as the thumbnail image for a youtube video about it (which I didn't watch, but I mean, kinda spoiled that one for me)
Right away it becomes immediately obvious what caused all the "woke" and "DEI" complaints about it, because somebody dared to make both the lead and the villain female POC
so that's that mystery solved right out the gate
Appreciate that force visions are incoherent jumbles of details even when you focus on one specific thing to try and keep it clear
since the Force is very unhelpful with those more often than not
Also digging that some of the Jedi robes look like they could be right out of SWTOR
"How can something be both very plain but also weirdly garish?"
"Jedi will find a way."
the whole order lives in quasi-seclusion and keeps to themselves, fashion sense is not something they're known for
also YAY, yellow sabers are back
First episode down. Not super excited by it, but so far definitely not worth the hate.
(also I'm well aware I'm not a huge fan of Jedi stories to begin with, so it's not particularly surprising or somehow a complaint, I'm just aware what is and isn't for me)
Biggest complaint so far is they replaced the exposition scrawl with just static text on a starry background
which isn't exactly a huge deal, so
Have I forgotten most of the characters names already? Yes. Is that just because I'm absolute shit with names? Also yes.
I'll resume this tomorrow night, dinner took longer than expected and now I need to sleep
Resuming with episode 2 now
perfect jedi mediation basically doubling as a personal forcefield (literally, and pun absolutely intended) checks out
as does the dark side response basically amounting to "Oh, fuck you" and doubling down
"what if the same thing, but angrier" is kind of its whole gimmick
"Any astromech can do the job, but I'm better company than a droid"
Respectfully, Osha, no you are not
I have nothing against you but droids are fucking mechanical goblins and I love them
the only droid even remotely close to being competently assembled and programmed is Threepio and he's still like a gravitational anomaly of anxiety
I need my goblins to compliment my feral gremlin-ness
Droids are perfect because they're also disasters and they don't judge you
also I will grudgingly give one (1) point to the more conservative Jedi hardliner faction here, they at least recognize reality and adjust their stance accordingly
they may cause more problems than they solve for the Jedi, but at least this Mirialan master lady I've already forgotten the name of is grounded in reality
"one person can't be in two places at the same time, fuck my preconceived notions"
Already showing more common sense than her SWTOR counterparts who cling to hairbrained ideas like "we can totes bring the Sith Emperor to the light side"
"Sure he's been embracing the dark side longer than any of us have even been alive, but I'm sure if we just try real hard it'll work out"
(narrator: It did not work out)
"you can blend in without sampling your merchandise"
Respecfully, no
anyone selling any kind of mind altering substance is 100% having a taste (or several)
I'd be shocked if this isn't the exact reason why like 50% of dealers get busted, minimum
The temptation is too strong and the supply is too readily available
Need to cut this one short due to time, didn't realize how late (or early) it was
wanna get a decent night's sleep before going through the hell that is "we showed you a powerpoint slide, how much more training could you want???" that is work
oh it's more like 80-90 tbh
