LAUCH IN... less than 7 hours
SO I WAS RIGHT there are guides everywhere already
Right now, the only thing the game has is the most intricate crafting system outside of Wurm Online that I have ever seeeeeeen
Otherwise, PvE and PvP are beta at best. It's really just gonna be a crafter's paradise for a while
Clans are already a thing
The discord has an advertisement section for it and .... it is actually really interesting the discourse about it all
I've "pledged" to a clan that's rp/crafter focused
They do require you to donate one plot of your lands to the clan
But their goal is to build a living breathing town and they want to run like a proper inn/tavern
Since you can brew beer and wine and cook and bake and fucking hell
So ya. Tavern is 100% feasible and I'm excited for it
Idk how the rp aspect is going to go but there is a devoted RP server for what it's worth and considering the lack of content pve/pvp wise atm... RP seems like the best way to go!
There's 3 leaders for the clan I signed up for and in their ad they boasted "Over 5 years of RP experience!"
Nothing that makes you feel older than experience
But they seem nice. If their discord is accurate, the clan has about 25 pledged to join at the moment, which is pretty good considering the game isn't even available yet lmao
I played all day lol it's been fun and chaotic
I cannot imagine playing solo
We found the perfect spot for setting up the clan's town except there was one thing between us, a bear
We managed to glitch the bear into a bridge and stab it to death with "pointy stick"s
It took more time than it had any right to
But we claimed our land and we have plans to essentially overtake an island/peninsula. I don't think we'll be super successful but
We have a lot of land to start
The server did get real laggy and janky, but there's a hotfix being sent out
And at one point there was a data bottleneck so nothing was being built (except it was, it just was lagged for hours)
SO that is slowly getting corrected
BUT OVERALL? It's fun but only because the clan I'm in is chill and is doing the whole teamwork thing
We've easily found people invested in specific roles
We have a tailor, blacksmith, a cook
I've just been the weirdo gathering odds and ends. Who wants onions? No? Clay?
Idk what I'll do. I told them I just want to be a witch when I grow up .-.
So hopefully I can find my spot in the chaos. But everyone's kinda found their niche and it's working great
Very pretty but very deadly
Ooooo
THE SCENERYyyy
SO THIS GAME HAS ABSORBED me in every way. I am in love and willing to drop BDO entirely to just BE here
The reviews are extremely negative but I can't get over it. The game has so much potential and it's already floored me with just these amazing fine details and just the possibilities
Here's what the clan did Friday
We had a commencement RP ceremony. Appointed several guild leaders, by which I mean Craftsmen guilds.
So our hamlet we've built FROM THE GROUND UP is gorgeous btw BUT basically we have different guilds and each guild has masters and apprentices. Like Carpentry, Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Baking, Cooking, Leatherworking, Tailoring, etc.
So the masters were established and then we did a tavern celebration, as ya do
Then we thought THE NIGHT IS YOUNG let's go on an ADVENTURE
Between the cook, the alchemist (myself), the armorer and weaponsmith, we suited up and picked a spot on the map with 4 dungeons
Crawled through the first one, taking off enemies one at a time, luring them out with arrows and hit and running a bit and slowly crawled our way to the boss
Some of Lector's henchmen dropped amulets, trinkets, tokens. Each with a description, for those that weren't worn or cracked
Lector himself dropped an amulet
We pocket the loot to give to our Archivist later, who is keeping record of our travels and findings
We do this 2 more times with a decent efficiency, the inquisitors that we're fighting aren't a massive threat when we're smart with our approach
The 4th dungeon, however, has heretics, cultists. On one of the amulets we glimpsed it said the Inquisitors pillaged the cultists, capturing them and torturing them to acquire demonic magic.
AND LO AND BEHOLD we did our best but our tactics against the inquisition were no match for the cultists
While we made some progress, the horde got us and we had to retreat
But we gathered 5 amulets, each with a different inscription that were still in tact
Among the amulets we gave to the archivists he deduced that the Inquisition is fighting the cultists and while they wield magics of fire and healing, the Cultists wield demonic magic of ice and poison
Finding these amulets and examining them, we passed them around to our tailors, leatherworkers and smiths. Each finding a different use (unlocking recipes!) for magical armors and equipment
If they successfully craft what the amulet tells them, the wearer of the gear would be capable of equal magic capabilities and likely do far better against the cultists
Alongside the potential of magical gear, it also told a story of the gods rise and fall.
And while I'm embellishing a little to an RP degree, the lore and recipes are all in there. It's been so satisfying to go out into a dungeon crawl and just learn about the world from reading the loot we received
Nothing told us to go fight these dungeons, there are no quests in the game, no friendly NPCs, there are only mobs and open land
So the players are the quest givers and the players are the shopkeepers and the players are the townsfolk, adventurers, gatherers, crafters and lorekeepers.
It is a roleplayers DREAM I cannot emphasize enough
I understand why there's some negativity because if you are used to MMOs with longwinded plot arcs and NPC fetch quests, you won't know what to do. If you are just coming in for the PvE, PvP and especially if you are solo
It's going to be grindy, it's gonna be slow and you might be miserable because the game really wants you to specialize in 1 or 2 (max) crafts
But to progress your specialized craft you will need other crafters
You can't make a leather belt without a metal belt buckle. How do you get a metal belt buckle? Smithing. How do you build a forge? Woodcutting. It's a cycle of necessary materials and teamwork
So having an interconnected community working together is an absolute must to really progress
I'll take some screenshots of the town the clan I'm apart of has built. It's still under construction but it's wild how much has been done in less than a week
A MEETING OF ALLIANCES:
^ Everything here is built by players
An adventure into what I have called "Foggy Bottom" lol
I am the derp jumping mid-air in the screenshot
Also, I called it Foggy Bottom and now everyone is calling it that
And they're asking Where'd I get the name
LOL IT'S A REAL PLACE IN DC GUYS LMAOO
I think it's on the Blue line........?
Been a while since I was over there. BUT EITHER WAY
It is a real place and it is a real name and this region is a foggy swamp, very DC esque so why not
