Previously, 1 skill could do anywhere between 1 hit to 42 hits depending on class
But hits and how quickly you went through one skill was heavily tied to your fps rate
So obviously, the faster the hits process, the faster you can move on to the next skill and the more damage you can deal in a very short timespan
The main change (although there's more!) is that they have significantly reduced the number of possible hits down to 1-5 (some exceptions because lol animations) and then mushed the damage into those fewer hits
KR already has these changes
And the verdict is that better PCs took a "nerf" LOL
But everyone else got a massive buff
Thus, evening the playing field
60 fps and 144fps are performing at a similar rate
It may seem odd if you aren't used to fps being the primary determining factor of your dps but from living with this for years, well damn
THE OTHER CHANGE is to DR and EVA and I'll explain that a bit but bear with me cause it is complicated
BDO's gear is a straight ladder, for the most part
Everyone has mostly the same gear. There's not really a meta in that sense? Accessories have a meta, crystals and artifacts have a meta, but it's class-specific. But the majority of your armor and weapons are going to be the same between everyone
Armor has only 2 branches, Evasion (Eva) or Damage Reduction (DR)
Evasion previously did what you would think it would do. You either get hit or you don't. This made it the best choice for small scale fights or fights with fewer opponents.
Damage Reduction is also true to its name. It reduces the damage you take by a % no matter how many things are coming at you, so better for larger scale fights or more opponents.
Eva has usually been the preferred choice for PvP, DR for PvE with some exceptions because some classes naturally have Eva or DR passives so you should ideally compliment your class
1 full set of eva or dr is about 280-300bil at the moment, obviously the market shifts around
You can make 500mil-1bil per hour at end game grind spots
So because of the cost and investment, generally speaking you have to pick a side and stick to it
This can lock you out of some classes if you value being ~optimal~ since like I said, there are passives for eva and passives for dr depending on your class
Eva and DR will become one and the same
Eva will now reduce incoming damage by a %, just as DR does
However, for eva you are reducing the % based on your opponents accuracy
For DR you are reducing the % based on your opponents attack power (AP)
SO BECAUSE OF THIS and like eva and dr having passives, so does accu!
THEY HAVE ALSO HAD TO ADJUST ACCU lmaooo
Needless to say, they have adjusted and tweaked most aspects of combat with this update, nothing is the same and it's mind boggling
And to make a bit more sense of this, I should add I suppose, with your accessories there are 4 branches
If you take Accu, you are inevitably sacrificing AP, the sets with accu do not have as much AP
If you take AP, you are sacrificing DR
Likewise if you take DR, you are sacrificing AP and Accu, if you take Eva you are sacrificing AP and Accu
So somewhere in that hot mess, it mostly evens out
There are some special effect sets that add some pizazz but they are very class specific and very situational so I'm not going to bother explaining lol BUT THEY ALSO HAD SOME CHANGES because why not at this point anyway
KR has been very positive about the hit number changes, I haven't heard much about the Eva/Accu changes yet but I suspect we'll hear a lot after Saturday's Siege battle since that is usually what makes or breaks changes like these
Even if it's bad news, they are going to still go ahead and just adjust from what we have
They luckily haven't done a major adjustment like this since 2021 so once every 3 years is........... as much as anyone can withstand
Oh. There's one more major change lol
WHILE YOU DO YOUR SKILLS. I'll make it succinct if I can
Some skills give you no protection, you can just get bonked and be cc'd or take the full brunt of damage
Some skills have Foward Guard which, well, protects your front like a shield would
Some skills have Super Armor which protects you from being cc'd but you still take damage
Some skills have Invincibility which....... well make you invincible but generally deal diddly squat damage
So FG and SA are also getting adjustments.
This, however, is not done yet. They have just warned us it's coming
SA, in theory, will also reduce damage but instead of making you fully immune to cc, it will become a % chance
FG will also be a % of damage reduced but at a higher rate than if you were to SA
They have also teased getting rid of FG entirely and moving everything to SA to avoid some confusion but.......... oof
Coming from an FG heavy class I will need time to adjust hoooboy
I am sure there are more changes but
We'll see how it goes but wow, going to be wild for a few weeks until people adjust
