Resurfacing after an amazing Banff trip. Had all kinds of weather being it spring and hiked in everything from beautiful sunny days through rain to all out snowstorm. We did have enough good weather every day to make things very manageable.
Crowds were also still far from the peak so save for a couple most popular hikes we barely saw other people. There was still a lot of snow in the higher elevations but thankfully I did bring the crampons which did the trick for the most part.
Lake Morraine was still closed due to mountains of snow so we headed over to BC to see Emerald Lake instead after hiking the trails by Lake Louise, and then made the drive to Jasper and Columbia ice field.
That was a long drive but we broke it up with several shorter hikes and wildlife viewing spots. Definitely saw most animals during that drive. Overall, awesome trip.
Yay! I'm so glad you had a great trip. We couldn't go to Jasper and the Columbia ice field because the roads were closed due to a June snowstorm. So happy for you to get a nice break!
I was worried seeing the weather forecast as we were leaving but once we got there they said do not worry if you don't like the weather just wait and hour and it will change.
They were totally right about that, I guess standard spring weather. And they were happy about the rain as last year they dealt with so much smoke from the fires.
we were re-routed a few years ago because of wildfires. Driving from Kelowna to Burnaby in BC. Had no idea we were driving into it until we came upon a police roadbloack. Had to turn around and drive 4 hrs back the way we had come from. Scary stuff, I'm sure they're happy with ALLLLL the rain they can get
