We have a zoo in Sweden that famously only keeps endangered species. Once a species is no longer endangered, they phase them out of the zoo. (So far I think this has only happened once but I digress.) This year I decided to become a donor for a European rodent called the European ground squirrel.
They live in fields so human farming is really cutting down on their habitats.
That’s such a great concept wtf
That is a great concept, I love it
And apparently if you become a donor you get email updates about the animal fldjfj
I want to visit Germany for the zoos and museums, I should clearly add Sweden to the list
I know my argument against zoos and their whole we are doing it for conservation and not for the money!! Garbage is like ... okay but are meerkats endangered ?? Or are they just cute and you want to draw in the customers ??
So far I've gotten two. One's wishing them good morning after the winter bc they sleep for 7-8 months (!!) and then one has the title "breakfast's served" to tell me about their diet.
And I'm like this is adorable what the heck.
And yeah it's a great idea!
The species they're phasing out is a hawk (I forget the exact species) that was endangered in Sweden.
It's called Nordens Ark btw!
It's so adorable dlsöfkjhgd
This is a really cute zoo concept omg
That is really really cute
that looks like a Prairie dog!
i wonder how they're related
...why are they called prairie dogs
All this time I thought they were actual dogs
apparently they sound like dogs when they call to each other
behold, dogs
prairie dogs, ground squirrels, and chipmucks are apparently all
closely related The prairie dog’s scientific name is Cynomys ... In Greek, Cynomys means ‘dog mouse’ and refers to their dog-like warning calls and small size.
