Hello friends, I'm planning a short vacation to Chicago for my birthday. Any must sees you can recommend? We're planning on the Shedd aquarium and Field museum.
we won't have a car but we're staying near the Bean which is by a major bus line and we can always take Lyft.
3 full days and a half day.
anyone ever been to their zoo?
Museum of Science and Industry is always fun! And if there's a show happening when you're there, Improvised Shakespeare is incredible.
ohhhh. I'll add those to the list.
aww the shakespeare one is only fridays and saturdays and we'll be there earlier in the week
idk if you can get to the zoo via bus. it's been a looong time since I've gone but I thought it was out in the burbs
the museum complex is great, haven't been to the aquarium but my nephews seemed to like it. Navy Pier is meh at best but if the Windy is already docked and taking tours, she's a decent tall ship
I go to Chicago a lot because of conventions but I haven't done tourist things there in ages
The Lincoln Park zoo is great and in the city!
The Art Institute is a must see if you're into that
(The zoo in the burbs is Brookfield, which is also good but hard to get to via public transportation, although not impossible.
Near to the Art Institute is a Russian Tea Room which is really nest to have high tea at.
oh thank you I could legit not remember that there was another zoo besides Brookfield
last time I was there was for a cosplay event in the '00s
No worries! We lived there from 2005 to 2012
looks like that ship does sunset sails, that sounds awesome.
looks like Art Institute will be having a Georgia O'Keefe exhibit..
thanks everyone! this is super helpful.
yeah, the Windy is very pretty and their sunset sails are popular
although when I got to ride the Pride of Baltimore we raced the Windy to port and outstripped her
I don't know if this is a "must see" for everyone, but the museum of surgical science is an interesting little side trip. doesn't take a super long time to get through, iirc
