things I need: new graphics card, new motherboard, new CPU, possibly new power supply if they take more energy than my old setup
latest #40
You might be better off just buying a pre-built tower at this point

I see no reason I can't reuse my same RAM unless like... they don't fit in a new motherboard....

THIS IS ALL TOO MUCH MONEY THOUGH GOD

So long as it has PCI ports you can take your old RAM out and install it in the new rig

No guarantees the existing RAM will fit in the motherboard, yeah.

Usually, but not quite always.
Like you could potentially do a 12-month payment plan with Best Buy to get a new tower with decent specs and take your RAM sticks in to make sure the tower can take it

RAM transferring over would depend on the motherboard specifically

AzureChrysanthemum: .........I did not know they did payment plans
Princess Emily

that is feasibly doable
Princess Emily

assuming they don't throw me away for not having credit
NekoIncardine

Dell also does a financing system, often with 12 months 0 interest
It IS reliant on your credit yes
But yeah that's usually what I do when I need to replace my tower, I just did that about half a month ago in fact
Basically you have to get their store credit card and they do 12 months interest free

Have you just never had a credit card?
Princess Emily

No
Princess Emily

because I cannot get approved for them
Princess Emily

because I have no credit
Princess Emily

or worse, I had bad credit because of student loans
Princess Emily

I THINK I just have no credit now because it's been long enough that the student loan stuff dropped off
Likely no credit yeah
Probably if you want to establish credit, you need to get one of the shittier cards like capital one that tend to take everyone
Princess Emily

but I think it's very funny how if you're on time for every payment nothing happens to your credit score,
and then if you're late once, maybe twice, your entire score tanks
(with student loans)
Then just use it for your day-to-day expenses and pay it off every month just to establish something

alas

working on my credit score won't help me in the short-term with a new computer
Vehrec

that is rather the crux of the issue

Indeed.

Princess Emily

this is mostly just irritating like, I don't NEED games, I SHOULD be able to just wait until after summer break then save up
Princess Emily

but it's annoying specifically because like
Princess Emily

me: man, look at all these computer games! well, I can wait until I'm on break then play them, I don't have time rn with work and stuff,
summer break: /here
computer: /won't play games
me: i guess i have to wait until after break.... when i won't have time again....
