Then people start shaming her for “going to top schools and become a TPM?” and saying things like she will at last marry a US citizen or green card holder to solve her visa problem.
Some people even call her degree a “fake STEM degree” just because it’s not one of the traditional ones, and say they are the people taking opportunities away from “real” STEM degree holders.
Everyone knows the system is broken. I understand that we are foreigners and the US government is not obligated to give us work permits / visas / permanent residency. But the thing is it on one hand says it needs more talents while on the other hand keeping the same H-1B cap for 20 years.
I don’t want to disparage people who are so desperate in their country that can only take a risk to escape to pursue a potentially better life in the US.
It’s the relative deprivation that we study and work and create value and pay tax and meet all the strict and complicated criteria but can only rely on the randomness of the visa lottery system while lots of people coming illegally can soon settle down and start a new chapter of their lives, protected by the law.
