Alone in the Dark the new one. spoilers inside from commentary.
latest #101
I'm already a good bit in.
As soon as I read the phrase "a thousand young" I was suspicious of what that might be connected to. They also mention a black goat so ofc.

Shub got a mention in here.
So that was fun to unlock.
The Dark Man has a pallid mask and I just keep thinking of KiY lol.
He's some sort of Egyptian thing though?
Which...
Me trying to remember which Egyptian gods he used in his writing and who they stand for...
I was definitely cowering a lot at the beginning but I've gotten over my fears.
It's a fun mystery/adventure. Interesting concept. Nice and spooky. Lovely music. Great voice acting. Very setting piece.
Gonna have to play through twice to get both characters' stuff unlocked.
Gimme a handsome private detective any day.
I like how drinking alcohol is how you recover health. More like recover sanity from all this crazy shit. lol
Nyar. It's fucking Nyar.
The shapeshifter. Disguised to roam about the world. Chaos following in his wake.
Okay now that I'm getting deeper into the mystery, I like all the lore drops everywhere.
I find it fun to be like "oh, oh, I've heard of that before!" from other stories, etc.
Why didn't I see it before. So fucking obvious.
That contract... lmao... just ...what a good way to go.
To put that clue in there. Hah.
Holy fuck, Jeremy does not look 50.
It must be because we've only ever met his memory self...
So he appears younger, I assume.
Makes sense. I totally glossed over the fact that she's his niece. Which typically means much younger.
Poor Carnby, going through all this.
And Emily just thinks he's doing nothing the whole time.
Every time they meet up she's just like "are you okay... /skeptical" because it's always after one of the crazy ventures.
I wonder what her story will be like.
Does it just switch them, and Carnby doesn't get any of the weird crap, or does she get a tame version of the story...I doubt there's nothing but is it because it's two alternate versions of the story... or does it connect and she's just not admitting to the crazy. Hmm.
I knew I heard whispers from that tree before... but not the first time... but they're getting louder each time I pass...
It looks like this place is in the eye of whatever storm came down this night... it's definitely raining out there, quite heavily, but it's not raining out in the garden where I am right now so.... eye of another hurricane? Interesting if so.
They're definitely content to summon Shub in this place...
The empty room... "got a job at the loony bin"... in debt... Grace seems familiar to him for some reason...
there is no one in the empty room. forgotten. never existed.
istg if this ends up another story with a loop involved in it....
ok that forbidden knowledge made me think of Shutter Island hah.
"When It Makes You Worse"
the idea of not getting better despite efforts because you really don't want to... or that the treatment becomes such an obsession that you make it worse...
"The story needed to be different, it needed to include something from the outside world." jfc Carnby is the empty room guest, isn't he. fuck.
"This is my room. I belong here."
Yeah, okay. The not so subtle pointing in that direction was definitely the thing. Whoo
"The empty room always felt familiar. It had a mild fragrance of crushed leaves and wet sand that somehow somehow convinced visitors that they belonged. It wasn't real, of course. But it was more real than many other things you could find."
But the safe number being his PI license number is interesting...
Jesus, game, I get the picture. He was working on a case a few years back about the little girl, Grace, missing. Why she's so familiar. Do I really need to find the last piece of evidence for the board? Then give it to me already!
This is either playing out as it is... him remembering this case.
Or it's literally just Shutter Island and he's the fucking nimwitt all along.
If the former, I'm guessing he killed Grace's father. Who is listed as having "died suddenly" and suchnot.
Or they're all already dead.
Or maybe he only saves Grace...
But what if he saved neither
My one gripe for the game is that the physics sometimes get stuck. As if, your character gets stuck on an object that may or may not exist in the environment. It's annoying at any time, but especially aggravating when there are enemies on screen. /sigh
Okay, I was (half) right. One of the forbidden knowledge unlocks revealed that the "tree" in the observatory is one of the Dark Young. Makes sense.
I have read that they look like massive trees, or can blend into trees as in a forest.
Huh. What am I supposed to sacrifice at the tree?
Well. I don't know what I gave her. But I gave her something.
And now I have flare gun in this game. I'm a PI with a flare gun fighting eldritch monstrosities. Gee, wonder what that makes me think of.
So... Shutter Island, I guess?
Also, I missed my chance to please the Dark Young. ;;
I heard whispers once, so I might know where it was intended... but I didn't know what to do. Ah well.
This game is... interesting.
Oh goody. My current objective is: Stop the Black Goat of the Woods.
She sure was angry about that fire...
I'm still a little sad I didn't get to play cultist and do what she asked LOL
Mostly because I love bonus stuff.
But this sure is some ending...
I'll have to figure out that other one another playthrough.
Or save file. Keep that one on hand if I can remember...
That bitch was giving me hell.
Okay, time to play as Emily and see what she finds out.
Although I do still want to figure out that optional objective to heed Shub's call. Kekeke
Okay, same path so far just different person taking it. With a few differences in how people react to things going on.
Wow, Baptiste. I see how it is. Don't attack the strange man right away, but when you see a small woman you go straight for the throat. Literally.
lol. Backed off immediately but that sure was a scene. Wonder how they know each other. Something in their past. He knew she was supposed to marry the guy... the engagement ring that's in her starting inventory (like Carnby has his PI license).
Hmm, yeah, just role reversal. She gets to go to strange places, and Carnby gets to wonder what the hell is going on.
I like his version better.
Mostly because I like his character more than hers.
I also don't really enjoy her voice as compared to his. Though it does suit her personality, it's not very pleasant imo. But I mean how can you beat David Harbour? She never stood a chance.
I did finish her playthrough but I missed a few collectibles. :c
Got two of her endings but missing the item for one of them. Went back and got Carnby's bad ending, too. It's funny. He joined a cult.
The two regular endings are really kinda the best anyway. Though the wth just happened one is amusing.
Shub's design is good. Or...is it one of her children? Who truly knows.
A small pain to defeat but not terribly hard.
Overall a great game! I really enjoyed it. Especially the first tine through.
