I still don't understand the PBR thing at all. Will everyone just be able to see it? Will we have to have something special? I'm very confused. lol

Screw pbr

Not everyone will be able to see it and things made for pbr won't work for those who can't render it

I'm just excited about having her texture detail and more optimal uv mapping

aliciachenaux: you'll be able to see it when your viewer allows you. and since your computer is not a dinosaur you'll render it just fine

LunaFate: Yes, everyone will just be able to see it as long as their on the latest viewer, which they should be for security and bug fixes anyway. We, as creators, also have the option to put backup legacy materials onto objects before applying PBR ones, for the rare cases where people haven’t updated.

LL deserve flack for a lot of stuff but this PBR update has shown LL to be the most open and engaging with the creator community about changes they have ever been. Plus, in one fell swoop, it’s bringing SL up to date with the rest of the video game industry, and paving the way for future interoperability with other 3D asset marketplaces.

In terms of worrying about people being left out, just know that we’re literally only one Firestorm update away from PBR being widely available, that everyone on the latest default SL viewer already has PBR, and that both LL and Firestorm limit access to SL to older viewers eventually anyway, so soon enough PBR will be the default.

The PBR update has also made high-ultra graphics much less taxing on computers. I’m running on a MacBook Air and I’ve never turned off shadows and AO since updating.
My computer usually groans under shadow use, but I used the pbr test viewer firestorm had out at the time to look at a building MarkusSlingshot3 was working on and I could easily move and look at everything so I am hopeful that once the kinks are worked out that it can actually be useable. And you can still turn down graphics by limiting some details if it
IS too much for your computer

chandnikhondji: yeah basically the difference now is that shadows and AO are less of a problem, and you can get more performance gains by turning down reflection quality etc. And yes, I think there are some kinks left to fix - if I remember correctly, that’s why Firestorm haven’t shipped their update yet, they’re waiting on a last few bug fixes from LL
yeah that's how I understood it too
However.. 2K textures! Heck yeah :-D

Well that's good it'll render for most, I was under the impression it wouldn't for some reason.
