It seems a lot of people went "That makes more sense!" when they found evidence the statues were originally painted instead of white. Idk if they like one more than the other, but I didn't see any complaints.

Outside of one art snob, I haven't seen any complaints: if anything, most reactions I've seen to this discovery were delight and curiosity.
