We are planning to go to Toledo for family visit combined with eclipse viewing (hopefully) next month. I am trying to get the glasses ordered and there are so many from cheap to somewhat pricey ones. I know several of you have done it already, does it matter which ones you order or are the cheap Amazon 10-packs fine?

I bought some cheap Amazon ones and they absolutely identical to the ones the European Southern Obsevatory had bought apart from the branding.

Thanks I figured it is probably the case but wanted to make sure.

The ones I got were actually branded for the US eclipse in 2017. I got a silly number on Amazon the week before we went because the ESO ones hadn't turned up.

They were this style. One of the guys cut one up and used it (with some tinfoil) to make a filter for his camera as well - got great pics.

the damn thing is coming near us again. when it happened in 2017 and everyone completely lost their minds, the cheap cardboard glasses were available in every gas station & wal-marts in the area.

In 2017 it was check-in day for the fall consignment sale. Everyone lost their minds. The media made everyone terrified to get in the road because they said they'd be stuck in traffic for hours & hours to go a mile down the highway. School was cancelled, childcare closed, businesses RENTED OUT THEIR PARKING LOTS, restaurants closed for the whole day, it was

insane to watch the circus around it. And now it's passing the same area again. So glad we aren't having a sale. No one would bring their stuff and absolutely no one would come in to work that day. I think Paul & I went outside for 3 minutes to watch it and then got back to work since we had to do alone what 30 people should have been doing.

I am worried about the traffic. We are flying to Detroit as we are visiting family in Toledo but have to head closer to Cleveland for full totality. DH's cousin has a farm right in the path so technically ideal situation if weather cooperates, but traffic is a massive wild card for sure.

in 2017... in Western Kentucky... nothing happened! There was no traffic. it was a non-issue after all the mass hysteria.
