All I know is that I'm going to hit some museums on President's Day (I checked, they're open still that day, I'm good) while dressed as Sophie Hatter, so that'll be fun
outside of the obvious biggies (smithsonian, american history museum, botanical gardens, national gallery, etc) I recommend hitting up Georgetown to walk around the pretty streets and to go to Tudor Place which is a beautiful old estate. Also in Georgetown DEFINITELY check out Dumbarton Oaks Gardens they are GORGEOUS and huge and just I was in awe.
Also if you like a cemetery like my sister and I do, check out Oak Hill Cemetery
as for museums, I want to put in a good word for the National Museum of the American Indian, it's a beautiful space, they have some really cool exhibits and performances there and also my favorite food of all the museums in DC
(of all the museums i've been to in DC, maybe one of the ones i haven't been to might be better but i cannot say)
will def send this list to the friends I'm going with, ty~ <3
Obviously the lincoln memorial and jefferson memorial are worth the trip along with the national mall but if you are up for the walk, the FDR memorial which is sort of off to the side of the Lincoln Memorial in a quieter space is pretty special
just beautifully laid out with fountains and such
if you go to Arlington I do recommend doing the tour of Arlington House (it was Robert E. Lee's house then seized during the civil war for obvious reasons and its a pretty interesting museum) but you should check out tickets in advance for that
l-let's hope it's not too rainy so we can check those places out haha
and then i do think Mount Vernon is worth the trip out of the city if you have time (and if the rain is not awful lol)
but if you are stuck inside obviously the museums are more than enough there are so many
oh! and the library of congress is definitely worth it if you can get tickets or a tour time
also if you wanted to do afternoon tea somewhere, the afternoon tea at the willard is pretty special
its not cheap sadly but its really good
the willard also just has a nice cafe too if you are around there
But yeah basically hit up the museums, that’ll take up most of your time anyway
I hear the new museum of African American history is nice but it wasn’t open yet last time I was there. I’d totally go next time
Holocaust Museum is excellent except it will possibly be a mood killer for your whole day
gaisce: yeah it’s a great museum
i've also heard great things about the african american history museum but didn't get to go
also they just refurbished air and space
Was the national portrait museum suggested because it was the highlight for me in DC
I'll give the recs to my friends, thank you~!!
and anything I don't go this time at the very least I can put on a list for the next time if I go again
bespeak that's a favorite of mine too. i didn't suggest it separately because it shares a building with the national gallery which i mentioned
