Drinking in the tears of executives? Goddamned right.
This week marked month 8 (12?) in a string of brutal layoffs for the game sector, despite them being one of the few sectors of business that was fiscally solvent in face of covid.
Instead of learning from Iwata and the exects taking responsibility for the potential balance/losses, they boot people out the door.
Not to mention documents got leaked that showed the absolutely fucking INSANE budgets on these AAA projects
That will not ever earn their keep back in any timely manner
And yet here comes this desperate little indie project like the bully at the table snatching everyone's lunch
Glossing over a lot of nuance, but the industry kind of needs this black eye.
Games as Service ramping up despite the two big houses supposedly saying they'd stray away for a bit, eliminating the practice of physical releases (likely to restructure the ESA & ESRB on a whole), the layoffs going far, far beyond redundancy cuts.....
The moment won't last, but it's worth the chuckle while it's in play.

palworld was basically made in a shed by ai and nft bros and it still managed to succeed because the core concept works

was it an acti ceo that said players shouldn't be able to own their games?
