it's basically threaded conversations arranged on a time line. You can link videos and songs directly into the chat which is cool

there's a lot of political plurks (as you can imagine), social net plurks, music, photography - you name it!

Food is another big topic. And everyone here gets worked up when you mention BACON!

a lot of stuff breaks on plurk before it hits twitter - IMO

just start using it and it comes to you easily.
