It makes me feel that Atticus thinks Mr.Nathan appreciates the land more and that all people should be more appreciative.

I didn’t realize when I first read the sentences. Now I think I understand when I reread it.

Atticus is telling Jem that what Mr. Nathan does with his trees is his own business.

Also, Nate knows about the tree and the kids. Nate knows who is leaving stuff in the tree knot and doesn’t want others to know.

It makes me wonder why nathan is lying, and who he's lying for. and that he knows more then he's leading them to believe, and that Atticus

might know why he did that.
