Why does Jem cry at the end of the chapter? What do you think is happening here?

I think that Jem cried because he was sad that Mr.Nathan had filled up the tree hole, and that Atticus expects him to no these things.

I think Boo got the note and couldn’t read it so he asked Nathan to read it. When Nate saw the note he filled the hole to stop Boo
